Should I install into the wine prefix?

When I am installing a game from an exe installer (not gog, amazon, or epic), should I be installing the game files into the wine prefix like

/home/user/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/game/default/game/drive_c/Program Files/

/home/user/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/game/default/game/drive_c/Program Files/

or is it better to leave them outside the prefix, for example

/home/user/Games/Heroic/game

/home/user/Games/Heroic/game
