Using apps from tar.gz / Discord rich presence

Hi,
I am a total noob when it comes to anything linux related, I've literally started using it 2 days ago. I've been playing around with discord to have rich presence working for proton games (not sure if that's the right term).
The flatpack version obviously doesn't work as intended so I've been trying to install it using distrobox, which worked but it didn't have access to my audio.
I've also downloaded discord.tar.gz from official discord site and just unpacked it and that surprisingly worked but I've heard from my friend that "it can mess around your dependencies", which so far I wasn't able to confirm (also I don't know what that means).
Are there any actual downsides from using discord from unpacked tar.gz. Are there any solutions to this?
