Winter sport jacket - which pattern?

I’m looking to buy an autumn/winter sport jacket (this would be my only one for now).
I’m thinking mid grey, but wondering about the pattern. I have two overcoats, a light-to-midgrey herringbone and a finer navy herringbone.
I’m thinking my best bet is glen check? Or do I not need to consider the pattern of the two pieces? I really like houndstooth but figure the size of houndstooth and herringbone are too similar, so the larger-scale checks would contrast herringbone better.
