apparently my game isn't using my GPU?

performance
i'm testing marvel rivals on linux and it worked fine a couple of days ago but now it keeps getting dips in fps. it's a driver issue i'm sure of it because i have a fairly strong ethernet connection. i ran a benchmark to see what was going on and apparently no GPU data was collected. this is very weird to me as i thought on steam games would automatically pick the GPU to run. either way i was advised to use Proton Experimental to run the game or even GE-Proton (which i haven't installed) but that doesn't fix the problems. i lowered my settings on everything and that also doesn't seem to be helping. i have an average of like 48 fps when i normally should have them in the hundreds, as well as very big dips during matches. i imagine it's going to be an issue for other games but idk how to fix this.
i also checked on protondb and it wasn't very consistent. some people say it runs out of the box perfectly, some say to put certain launch options and others alongside that say to activate Proton Experimental (which i've done) or GE-Proton. idk what i'm doing wrong
