Increased timeouts and data corruption after enabling Cloudflare Proxy

I recently enabled Cloudflare’s proxy via domain mapping to enhance security. Since then, we’ve seen a sharp increase in "Network request timed out" errors and data corruption (leading to JSON parse errors) on our iOS app.
We are currently on the Free plan. Could this be a limitation of the free tier, and would upgrading to a paid plan guarantee better stability?
What we’ve tried:
Checked Cloudflare Security Events for relevant CF-Ray IDs, but no hits were found.
Switched the compression method to gzip, but it didn't resolve the issue.
Does anyone have insights into the potential causes or how to fix this?
