Ethernet stops working after resuming from sleep

I have a strange issue where sometimes my computer will successfully go to sleep, and other times it will wake up immediately. What I've noticed is it seems to consistently lose it's ability to connect over ethernet when it wakes up immediately, it just says disconnected. I've tried unplugging and plugging it back in to no avail but what does work is turning the router off and on again. I'm really not sure what is happening and wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar? Beginning to wonder if it's my router.
