Hi,
My friend and I recently installed Bazzite and have been testing it. He’s experiencing a problem with his DualSense controller on Steam games installed on an NTFS drive.
- The controller works fine outside Steam (e.g., Heroic Games Launcher on Linux).
- But when launching Steam games via Proton, the controller stops working completely: buttons don’t respond and the LED blinks as if trying to reconnect.
- Steam Input must be enabled for the controller to work, but even with it enabled, Proton seems to lose access to the device inside the Steam Runtime (pressure-vessel).
- Disabling Steam Input makes the controller unusable.
We’ve already tested:
- Different Proton versions
- PROTON_ENABLE_HIDRAW=0
- USB connection (not Bluetooth)
- Steam Input on and off
The controller works fine when running non-Steam games through Heroic, or when the same game is installed on the Bazzite SSD (ext4), so it doesn’t appear to be a hardware issue.
We’re trying to figure out if there’s a way to make Proton games on NTFS drives recognize the DualSense correctly inside Steam Runtime without reformatting the drive.
Specs:
Motherboard: Biostar A520MH
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 4600G
RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 2x16GB DDR4
GPU: RTX 3060 12GB INNO3D
SSDs: 240GB Gigabyte (Windows + Bazzite), 250GB Knup, 500GB Rover M.2 NVMe
Any guidance would be appreciated!
