RX 9070 XT hard freeze after 1-3 minutes in games (Deadlock, Crisol) - atomic commit failed
questionbug
Hi! I'm having system hard freezes on Bazzite (fresh install, kernel 6.17, Mesa 26.0.0) with an RX 9070 XT + Ryzen 9800X3D.
The issue: when playing Deadlock (native Linux), the system hard freezes after 1-3 minutes inside the game. Mouse stops responding completely, requires hard reset. Also reproduced in another game (Crisol) where textures stopped loading at high resolution before freezing.
From journalctl logs, KWin starts spamming
atomic commit failed: Device or resource busy
atomic commit failed: Device or resource busy
when the game is running, then the system freezes completely.
The games worked fine for 2-3 hours on first boot, then froze mid-session and has been freezing consistently ever since.
Things I've tried: - SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11 (game wouldn't launch) - gamescope (no window appears) - Cleared shader cache - Disabled EXPO in BIOS - Disabled Bluetooth - Windowed mode (delays freeze but still happens) - Both Vulkan and DX11 freeze
dmesg shows:
amdgpu: SMU driver if version not matched
amdgpu: SMU driver if version not matched
but apparently this is normal for RX 9070.
Any ideas? Is this a known issue with RX 9070 on Wayland?
Solution
The KingSpec SSD was the problem. I plugged in a SATA SSD and moved the deadlock there — works no problem. I had it for 2 years, and I assume the last formatting and reinstalling of Bazzite killed it.
