Print long table with thead with page numbers

Is there a way I can print a very long table where the thead contains the page number? Like in a very long table, the browser copied the thead on each page, and I want each copy to have the current page number. This is what I've tried so far:

.page-number::after {
    counter-increment: page;
    content: counter(page);
}

.page-number::after {
    counter-increment: page;
    content: counter(page);
}

This CSS only has 1 on each page since afaict chrome just copied the element as-is without updating any values.

I tried putting a

@top-right

@top-right

but I can't seem to move the text into the actual content.

I also tried a fixed element, but that has the same problem as the

.page-number::after
