black screen when switching from desktop mode to gaming mode

this used to happen from time to time, but after a update its basicaly everytime now. i can go from gaming mode to desktop how many times i want, but everything freezes the other way around. everytime it happens i need to long press the power button to forcefully shut the pc down
sometimes its just a black screen, other times you can see some remaining desktop elements
