xmp sidecar information not read from external library

Hi there,
I am new in immich running v2.5.6 in docker on a synology dsm 7 as a standard immich installation with no modifications apart from the external library mount which is read only. I have indexed around 100.000 ol lets say XYZ.jpg and the same amount of generated XYZ.xmp files with dc:description and xmp:CreateDate in my external library. I am coming from photoprism and the xmp sidecar files are read there with no problem. I do not want any change or addition to the library. Immich should just display images+xmp information.
Details from the image file itself like timestamp, resolution, camera info and geo information are read and displayed correctly.
I would expect xmp sidecar information being read and shown in the web ui along with the images as well (adding description and replacing image date).
Unfortunately no matter what i try the information is not being read or not being shown in the photos info dialog. I have re-run and awaited all jobs as an admin. I tried verbose log, I can see only xmp / sidecar related logging when I manually "update metadata" on a single image. But the logging does not say anything, only "Filetype xmp". Still it is not being read into the data. I tried with XYZ.jpg.xmp as well, no difference.

My questions:
What are the exact preconditions for reading xmp from my external library.
What else can i try?
