I can't make the domain work with systeme.io

Hello. So this is after already quite a long trail of emails with systeme.io customer service.
Systeme.io provides instructions to add the domain via adding 3 DNS records. 2 of those records are for the domain www.polynexia.co.uk and then also root polynexia.co.uk
Following the instructions step by step, the www.polynexia.co.uk works fine, but it does not appear possible to make it work for the root domain. The instructions say add "@" as name and enter the same target as for the www. version, but Cloudflare "flattens" the record into polynexia.co.uk and as a result, if you type in the short version of the URL into the browser, you will get a default systeme.io 404.
Systeme.io have now confirmed that the way I set this all up is correct, and that I need to get in touch with Cloudflare support. Previously, it was Cloudflare that told me to talk to systeme.io. I am kinda lost what am I supposed to do.
