Audio selection issue

I have a Gigabyte Aorus B450 Pro Wifi motherboard and an RTX 3060TI
My wired headphones are connected to the motherboard audio, my main speakers are connected via a monitor audio out via hdmi.
On occasion and at random when I try to switch the audio source from headphones to speakers in the sound control both options will be selected and I am unable to chose which to use. I have to log out and back in for it to work again.
