Artifacts on generated previews/thumbnails
The hardware is about 10 years old (it's my old PC repurposed as a NAS) so might just be time for an upgrade

No change unfortunately. But I have now tried on a different PC and everything works fine. So maybe it's a hardware issue

I now suspect this may be caused by my storage setup, I use MergerFS to create a single volume from multiple HDDs. I'll try limiting Immich to a specific disk

These photos are pretty old, taken with my old Nexus 6P. But the issue also occurs with my newer photos from a different phone, so I don't think it matters here

I meant maybe something goes wrong in the decoding process. The original files in library are unaffected

The thumbnail and preview seem to have the same artifacts so maybe this happens during reading the original image file?

I'm using Firefox, just tried Chromium with the same results though. Let me check the generated files on disk though

Yes, I've set the server to verbose logging but don't see anything abnormal, just the following:
