so maybe there's a bug where the first time you load a save, you need to save and reload before you can configure the changes then save and reload for the changes to apply?

i just re-tested a save and reload. that seemed to have fixed the issue.
weirdly, i'm pretty sure i tried that before posting this but the settings didn't seem to save for some reason when i did the save and reload the first time
