Hi! I'd like to get

[2021-10-17 09:21:53 AM] : Hi! I'd like to get your perspective on something I'm going through. I'm getting a feeling that people are getting too used to getting free stuff from me. I've been putting out e-bombs pretty regularly and my audience is at a decent size but I'm struggling to get them to actually buy from me :disappointed:. Lately I noticed I get really good feedback on my free content but when money exchange is on the table things get really silent. So I'm wondering whether I'm giving...

Hi friends! I'm look

[2021-10-14 10:13:16 AM] : Hi friends! I'm looking to create a painstorming writeup. :slightly_smiling_face: Alex mentioned he's going to make one, but I figured if there's some painstorming experts around, perhaps we could take a crack at a community-created one for Alex to review....

Ah I think my issue

[2021-10-08 02:46:03 PM] : Ah I think my issue is committing to a new audience, so I'm finding myself wandering through the safari

anyway, just sharing

[2021-10-07 05:17:08 PM] : anyway, just sharing because talking about my plans helps me think, and because people have told me they find it helpful when i do

and for the rollout,

[2021-10-07 05:08:19 PM] : and for the rollout, i’m thinking because i expect it to take me a pretty long time to develop all the content, maybe i’ll do an initial launch with like 3 of the 7 planned modules, then another one later with all 7 modules, or something along those lines. seems risky to try to build the whole thing before launching anything

i really wish i wasn

[2021-09-30 03:56:01 PM] : i really wish i wasn’t so dependent on the /r/ruby -> ruby weekly pipeline

the challenge i’ve e

[2021-09-30 03:52:13 PM] : the challenge i’ve encountered so far is that those adjacent problems have immediately led me TOO far away from rails testing, e.g. i wrote a post about how to think about test coverage metrics, which can’t really be promoted on /r/ruby because it doesn’t have anything to do with ruby/rails

I'm looking for reso

[2021-09-22 02:52:26 PM] : I'm looking for resources to upgrade my cold email skills. Any recommendations?

So this is my curren

[2021-09-21 09:17:14 AM] : So this is my current pricing. Note I mention "bulk discounts" ... maybe I could just add another column for "Team" 2-10 copies at £295 ? ... or even change / replace / fold into the Pro+ Consult option somehow? [File hidden by Slack limit]

also worth realizing

[2021-09-20 01:36:02 PM] : also worth realizing that only one of those audiences is your actual customer, and if you're focusing on a business that is about helping companies get candidates, that might require a different set of watering holes, ebombs, and strategies for reaching customers than what you've taken so far to build your existing audience!

might be worth diggi

[2021-09-20 01:32:22 PM] : might be worth digging into who was doing the actual posting before. if it was anybody but someone in a hiring role, odds are the people posting jobs for free are probably unlikely to have direct access to budget to post the same job for a fee. if you DO have actual hiring people posting jobs, then I'd be thinking about ways to make a paid post more valuable than the free one. I've seen some boards do this with free posts getting listed on the site but paid posts getting a higher listing spot, additional promotion, etc....

I'm a little curious

[2021-09-20 01:11:20 PM] : I'm a little curious about the source of those jobs posted to the board - were they from subscribers, posting jobs that their employers had open? I wonder if you have any idea the split of your list, cuz the person who's looking for a job and the person who has access to a budget to post a job listing are rarely the same person.

to do a little more

[2021-09-20 12:36:27 PM] : to do a little more digging, you could look at traffic numbers to the page before and after, and try to get a sense of what the conversion rate was like before

hi! i'd love some ad

[2021-09-20 10:34:24 AM] : hi! i'd love some advice on a challenge i'm facing. I added a job board to my newsletter about a month ago. it was pretty successful! within a month, about 30 jobs were posted (for free). I decided to try to make it a paid offering, and launched that last week. since then, no one has posted a job. ...

Excited! I pinged ou

[2021-09-20 04:49:30 AM] : Excited! I pinged out a survey to my list last week and spent a few days pulling together the key threads/themes from the responses. This has really helped me narrow the scope for my "Practical Blazor" project and got me to the point where I was able to post a message in my community to share my current thoughts and invite feedback. Here's the post: https://community.practicaldotnet.io/c/practical-blazor/practical-blazor-episode-1-a-new-scope-0117e7e1-86eb-45eb-9d93-d12e8814a2da...

Consenting newslette

[2021-09-16 07:24:11 PM] : Consenting newsletters are great and my preferred approach too, but know that a really good PDF pitch that centers the reader can also make for an excellent and well received cold email if you put in the work!

As I’m getting throu

[2021-09-16 09:02:31 AM] : As I’m getting through some of the video sessions/exercises, I’m noticing a lot of them leave off with, essentially, “and you’ll do this a lot with your own audience/focus!” Is the expectation to do that concurrently with the course, or that we sort of pick up and run later/after course completion?

[2021-09-14 01:50:40 PM] : alex Also maybe I’m just confused by it but I’ve watched the ‘Backwards Plan’ Video a few times and still having a hard time grokking it. I think relates to Paul DeBruicker’s comment maybe?

Is a 0.33% conversio

[2021-09-09 07:53:10 AM] : Is a 0.33% conversion rate for a mailing list signup form "bad"? It's the default form on my website, and I feel like it needs replacing (a few articles have specific forms with lead magnets)

[2021-09-08 03:49:54 PM] : I'm working on converting a free product to a paid product -- would anyone be willing to critique the newsletter issue I'm planning on sending out announcing my new pricing tiers?
