Help Sideloading UPlay Games

Hi! I saw a basic explanation, but I'm a bit worried doing this and hoping someone could confirm the correct method. I installed Steep from the Heroic Games Launcher because I own it on Epic Games. But it requires UPlay to launch first. I can't tell exactly what I need to do. Sideload the UPlay launcher? Reinstall Steep using a different method? Thanks for any help!

From what I've been able to ascertain, the correct thing to do may be to download the UPlay app installer, use Heroic Games to install it, then change the path to the launcher itself. Then, I'm not sure whether UPlay will detect Steep as already installed, or if I need to install it from UPlay again. I'm going to try this now and hope I don't make my issue much harder to fix! EDIT: They rebranded it to "Ubisoft Connect"? 🤷

you can try installing the launcher in the game's prefix, go to the game's settings in heroic > run exe in prefix > select the connect launcher installer > finish the steps then run the game (it should launch the launcher)

Here was the answer: Uninstall the game from Heroic Games Launcher. "Add Ubisoft Connect" (see SirSquid's video here: https://youtu.be/ANso5tO97r0?t=123) and then install the game from there. In Steam, manually add Ubisoft Connect and launch it, then any game you've installed from it.

This would allow me to add the game directly to Steam and have it launch via the launcher, without launching Ubisoft Connect and then Steep?

it should, yes do try to run the game first from heroic after installing the launcher in the prefix, so you can login and do any additional step before trying to run the game through steam

So I already uninstalled it from Heroic Games Launcher. I "sideloaded" Ubisoft Connect, and installed it from there. Now I simply "Add Game" (in Heroic Games Launcher) and find the newly-installed Steep? What I'm not understanding is how to add the "Ubisoft Connect" prefix (am I understanding that correctly?)

what I have done in the past with an Assassins Creed game was: - install the game using heroic - download the ubisoft connect installer.ex - go to the game's settings in heroic - click the button Run EXE on Prefix - pick the ubisoft installer - continue and install the launcher - run the game in heroic that would let the launcher see the game since they are in the same prefix I haven't tried with sideloading the launcher (I did that before we even had that feature)

Oh, interesting! I'm going to try sideloading Steep from Heroic, then click the "Run EXE on Prefix" and find Ubisoft Connect. I'll let you know how it works! This approach won't auto-add it to Steam, but I can do that myself manually.

I haven't tried with the sideload stuff, if you have issues I'd suggest to do the steps I used to try something different, I don't know what see what when you install something through the sideloaded launcher and then you try to sideload also a game, I guess it's a matter of trying

Yeah, I'll try out this method since the game is already installed. I'll get back to you on whether it works! Ok,the game crashed on first launch from Ubisoft Connect 🤦‍♂️ Let's try this again. Any preference for running in Wine vs. Proton? I don't fully understand what Proton is. (Back in a minute - trying it in Steam mode) Do I actually have to switch to Desktop Mode and run the Steam Client in Desktop Mode to Add a Non-Steam Game? 🤦‍♂️ NO! Heroic Launcher does it for you. Just click a game, hit the three dots and there's an "Add to Steam" choice. I was able to get it to run by doing the following: 1) Install Ubisoft Connect via Heroic Games Launcher 2) Launch Ubisoft Connect and install Steep 3) Add Ubisoft Connect to Steam via Heroic Games Launcher 4) Launch Ubisoft Connect via Steam and then launch Steep from there Trying to add Steep directly with "Run Ubisoft EXE First" didn't seem to work, as it always wanted to install Steep. Maybe I did something wrong there though? Pro Tip for Steep only: The "Press F2 for the In-game overlay" message will never go away unless you try that. I recommend binding a back bumper to Shift+F2. (EDIT: It might actually just go away the second time you launch the game. Cannot confirm). Final Edit: I basically can't get the game running without Crashing. Thanks for the help, though!

usually the preferred wine is wine-ge-proton (you can install that with Heroic), but if proton or proton-ge are working it's fine to use them, though be careful when changing wine versions since proton/proton-ge uses a different file structure than the one wine/wine-ge uses and it can break things that are already working
