First layer issues on travel

Hi, I’ve been printing fine on a 0.4mm nozzle and also switching to 0.6mm has been great. Now I’ve moved to a 0.3mm nozzle however I’ve got issues on my first layer when the print head finishes a perimeter and moves to the next it’s not clean. I’ve tried lower/higher temps, different z offsets and configured the pressure advance. Not sure what to try next, could this be retraction related? Extrusion multiplier? Bit lost, any suggestions appreciated!

I’m case it’s not clear from the video the issue is the blob that seems to be left at the start/end of a new perimeter. All line widths are relative, I think I’m running at 115% and first layer 0.18mm with other layers 0.1mm. I’m printing PETG with a heated bed.

Have you tuned pressure advance?

Yep that’s the only tuning I’ve done on swapping the nozzle though; that’s all I had to do when I went from 0.4 to 0.6 too

Did you set 0.3 nozzle size in printer.cfg? Looks to be massively overextruding? Maybe some slicer settings are still thinking 0.4 or 0.6 nozzle?

I set it in the slicer not in printer.cfg- didn’t think it would be an option there but I’ll take a look. I’ve given up on the 0.3 nozzle and put a 0.4 back in and it works perfectly. Really frustrating! Especially since the 0.6 nozzle worked fine

Pressure advance calculations use the nozzle size in printer.cfg - you'll want that to be consistent with whatever nozzle size you are running when doing PA tuning.

Hmm I can see nozzle diameter in my printer.cnf- didn’t know that was there. That being said it also has pressure advance in there but it’s using the PA I specify in my slicer filament gcode… seems weird to have to configure the nozzle in firmware as well as the slicer 😕

Yeah, it's a pain as I often forget myself but it does have an impact... Sometimes it's subtle and sometimes obvious... In my experience, petg has a pretty narrow window when it comes to settings and having anything less than 'just right' can make for some awful prints... Did you figure anything out here?
