3D Printer Fail-Safes

Just wondering how other people are managing over-night/remote printing? Are there any opportunities included in Klipper/RatOS to use a smoke detection system to power off the entire printer - or any other means of connecting an external trigger to the printer to make it more safe to do remote printing? Perhaps a visual monitor to review the printing area and if artifacts are outside of this zone the fail-safe is triggered? (I know that it's not best practice to leave a printer un-manned - but in reality it's going to happen... as some prints are over 24hours and there's only so much coffee can achieve...)

my Printers run most of the Time unattended while i am at Work, Klipper is a pretty safe Firmware with very strict Watchdogs, worst things ever happen is flying Spaghetti Monsters, but with well tuned enviroments i did not even had that since around 1000hrs of Printing. If you want to go sure there are automated Fire extinguisher Systems. Like the Mabo System for example https://www.feuerloescher24.com/automatische-feuerloescher/926-mabo-automatischer-feuerloescher-brandbekaempfung-nach-a-b-f.html

When I'm not at home, I'm using obico and a webcam. On one hand, I can always have a Look for the print and on the other theres a quite good Spaghetti Detection built in, which can onlay inform you or even stop the print, so that no biggerr issue can happen.

Many thanks for the info. I think the fire suppression system is a bit too extreme for the printer. I use these in other situations (as I’m an Architect). Essentially I’m looking for a monitoring system which has the capacity to turn off the system if there are major issues, but like you said, these issues are more unlikely if everything is dialled in correctly and the sliced model doesn’t cause risks with over-extended bridges which might fail etc. Initially, I’m going to see if it’s possible to access RATOS remotely and setup a webcam. I can then monitor the print during the day. I’ll also have a review the Klipper ‘Watchdogs’ - as I was unaware they existed. Thanks, again. Thanks for the info about Obico. It seems like a good solution for remote monitoring. Initially I’ll see if I can achieve active monitoring from accessing RATOS remotely. If not - I’ll definitely use that! Thanks.

many of us have a web cam hooked up for remote viewing. I believe klipper now has a built in exclude objects too (just have to enable it)
