Not sure if I asked this here already, but I'm still having issues and I'm am my wits end...

Is anyone well versed in internet issues? I use Xfinity and pay for their 1gig service which is the highest amount they have available for residential internet in my area. I use my own Arris Surfboard modem/router and all brand new cables (I use a plugged Ethernet connection). During the day my internet is fine... but the last few months when I stream, anywhere from a half hour in to about 2 hours in my upload speed will fall from 38-45 down to less than 1. Seriously... it will be at like 0.4! I used to stream at 6000 bitrate and 60fps, I have dropped it to 1500 bitrate and 30fps and that hasn't helped. I have called Xfinity at least a dozen times, had technicians come out to check cabling and the techs all say my side of things is great, even overkill and that the issues must on Xfinity's side. Yet when I call Xfinity they just want to send another tech out. It's an endless circle with absolutely no resolution in sight. I even installed a Nord VPN looking for more options to try and solve it and it hasn't helped either. It's incredibly frustrating because it destroys my streams and causes me to restart several times. I feel like there's nothing I can do. 😦 There are no other internet companies that offer 1gb speeds so I feel trapped with Xfinity. Any advice to try and get around this and get back to the awesome streams I used to have?

It sounds like you've done about all you can, especially if the technicians agree that all is fine on your end, and you need to change providers. Do you need 1Gb speeds though, realistically? 1Gb is overkill for most households anyway, can't you go to a different provider that offers a lower tier but better quality and support? Sounds like a reasonable trade-off. Also, not sure about your company, but in Australia, we have laws in place that entitle us to a refund and an option to void contracts with ISPs if they can't deliver their advertised speeds

Good points and honestly, I'm not sure. I'm not the most tech literate when it comes to internet.

two ideas. sometime a program called something like windowsupdater will run and use up almost all available bandwidth. it is a known windows bug, where the updater is left running, and will never stop or close. a simple check in your task manager should show if that is the case. i also had an issue where the underground node about half a mile from my house was bad. i had my isp run checks on each leg from them to my house, and see if any link had an issue, if your modem/router and pc are fine, you can start working your way back. these two things are rare i think, but they were huge problems for me and took a while to diagnose. good luck to ya.

they might be trying to bully you into renting their modem, that's what happened to me, a router and modem that was meant for high speeds dropped off to practically nothing and then we rented their modem and all the sudden it was fixed for the most part. they wont say it and the technicians are using their own opinion there, but that was the same exact thing that happened to me

I have all my updates set to manually have to be run since I was worried about random automatic updates so I don't think that is it. When my problems started I was still renting one of their modems. After 2 different techs came out, the 2nd one actually advised me to buy my own because Xfinity is known for just refurbishing theirs and not having the best quality. When I got my new one, the tech said it was far beyond what I even needed.

After all the other responses, I can only think of a) other devices using the network (but aren't yours) or b) throttling if you're not unlimited data and are close to your cap. But 100% agree with disabling the windows garbage apps. They're notorious resource hogs.

My Nord VPN Has a Threat Detection option that runs my CPU on my laptop at almost 97%. I haven't checked it on my streaming computer let, but is it safe to just turn that off and see if it helps?

Thank you! But also, these problems were happening before I even installed the NOrd VPN so don't think that will totally solve it

Yes, I explain all that in my original post. I have brand new top of the line cables for my ethernet connection and an Arris Surfboard Router/Modem

That's all been checked by several techs and no issues with those. It's on Xfinity's side which is why I'm so frustrated that they're throttling me.
