OP

because the VB compiler turns all WinForms forms into singletons

managedbass is actually really good but my goal is to not use restrictive licenses

I
'm looking into supporting just wav
, mp3 and vorbis
N
Nitrous
•
1/16/23, 10:46 PM
since those are the most commonly used
L
Lyris the Kitori
•
1/16/23, 10:46 PM
i cant do that
, i have to support a multitude of file formats that the user shoves in
R

OP

1/16/23, 10:46 PM
Which means it
's trivial to use a vorbis library and a simple custom
-written WAV importer

there
's no reason to support flac inside a game engine tbh
N
Nitrous
•
1/16/23, 10:49 PM
you just get better sounding audio but at the cost that its probably more costly to decode that format
A
Aqua
•
1/16/23, 10:49 PM
flac will sound no different to wav
R
ritchie ❤
OP
•
1/16/23, 10:49 PM
A lot of the big engines are just going to decode and re
-encode into an optimized format anyway
R
ritchie ❤
OP
•
1/16/23, 10:49 PM
In some cases they
'll even compress it
A
Aqua
•
1/16/23, 10:49 PM
it just uses less space
at the cost of the decoding requirements which frankly isn
't much

I know one of the big features I want to add into Sparky is built

simply so I can procedurally glitch the screen out using glitch sounds

flac will sound no different to wav

probably it will depending on your sound card and output

Thundershock Engine had support for it but it wasn
't implemented correctly and I still don
't understand enough about audio signal processing

much less doing it in real

Hmm
A
Aqua
•
1/16/23, 10:51 PM
nope
. flac is just losslessly compressed pcm data
.
the reason flacs are so desired is because they run at 96khz
+ and still use less space than a wave file

its literally the EXACT same thing but takes up less storage space
N

•

I thought it would cost more because of
"lossless
" compared to wav and mp3
's
"lossy

WAV is also lossless

yeah wav is just raw pcm
