Wolfenstein The New Order Crashing
Hi all, fresh install of Linux Mint 21 and Heroic Launcher. Installed Wolfenstein TNO and it crashed when attempting to launch it. I've tried using different proton and wine versions. Odd thing is, if I add the game to Steam as a non-steam game, and use Proton Experimental, it works fine. I've also included the error log the game shows when crashing. Interesting bit seems to be this part: driverDesc: NVIDIA-0
driverVersion:
WARNING: could not parse version string ""

I was able to run the game just fine out of the box using Wine-GE-Proton7-34, you can install that one with the Wine Manager section in Heroic and then set it for the game in the game's settings, I didn't need the launcher arg
I have a feeling you're missing GPU drivers, although that shouldn't really be possible (especially since it runs fine outside of Flatpak)

i'm not sure what drivers that'd be. i'm using the latest nvidia driver from the driver manager
it seems like games launched from heroic are not picking up my graphics card? but games installed with heroic but launched with Steam are picking up my graphics card

flatpak update
You're using Flatpak Heroic so it is possible you might be missing flatpak runtime for your matching NV driver.
If using flatpak is not necessary i would say go with .deb package or appimage

👍
I've added that command (
flatpak update
) to the FAQ now, in case anyone else ever has this problem againquickest-silver•3y ago
Maybe you can add
flatpak uninstall --unused
as well so they can run that sometimes as well otherwise NV blobs will just take too much space in time.
Each being 500ish mb and not get removed automatically even user promoted to a newer version. That's actually all I can add, right up against the character limit with that message
I feel like that's more of a "general system maintenance" thing though, it's not like Heroic would stop working with those installed
