"Not enough disk space" error when I actually do have enough disk space

I'm trying to install Rocket League but Heroic says I don't have enough disk space and references there only being 14.13 GB of available space. In reality I have 140 GB available.

Please confirm that your partition has enough space

Can you point me in the direction of confirming that? I didn't setup any partitions myself. If it was setup automatically at install, I don't see anything about partition space in the settings.

Mh the second image shows that are 140gb free. Maybe it is another problem. Can you send a general log of heroic?

or open Disk Utility.app

Again, showing 140+ GB free

let me try to get a log from heroic

check Disk Utility.app to see if there are any oddly mounted partitions. this is unlikely as macOS doesn't really separate things out like that

I wonder if macos does dynamic provide storage for apps? I know that most problems occur on macos

other than that, I don't have any real answers as I haven't used Heroic on macOS

I reopened Heroic and tried to install rocket league again and produced this log

@termdisc My disk utility looks a bit different for whatever reason

it's saying 14.99GB free there

I was confused by that as well. Why 14 GB free there when system settings shows 140+?

time to bust out DaisyDisk and see what's eating up space it could be local Time Machine backups click on the line that says "Macintosh HD volumes" right now, you're only looking at the snapshot

Similar story. I guess i just gotta find a way to get the available space to be in sync

I think this is beyond the scope of Heroic though, so I appreciate the help

run tmutil listlocalsnapshots / in the terminal to see if you have a lot of snapshots

looks like this is a recurring issue. https://www.mytecbits.com/apple/macos/finder-disk-utility-shows-different-free-space for example time to go down a rabbit trail of purgeable files and stale backups good luck! https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/324440/macos-not-showing-the-actual-free-space

Yeah Daisy disk is just showing 142 GB as free and purgeable. Looks like there's some documentation on reclaiming it Thanks for the help finding the underlying issue

np. it shouldn't be too hard now.

I also faced this issue today and the reason was local time machine backups. Just attaching another link if anyone comes later. https://appleinsider.com/articles/21/06/26/how-to-delete-time-machine-local-snapshots-in-macos Commands:
tmutil listlocalsnapshots /
Snapshots for disk /: com.apple.TimeMachine.2023-06-13-073626.local
sudo tmutil deletelocalsnapshots 2023-06-13-073626

Apple's Time Machine is an essential file backup tool for macOS, but it too has a backup that works off your Mac's primary drive. Here's how Time Machine's local snapshots work, and how to get rid of them if you want them gone.

Yes, I have the same issue but could jot find a fix for Sonoma beta. And it lists no local snapshots in my case. But it says 490GB are purgeable but I cannot use it since heroic and other apps detects only 30GB free. Stupid macOS

I am also on Sonoma beta. I checked the disk utility which was similar to the OP's screenshot. Then went to the terminal and deleted the snapshot. Now Heroic and disk utility are showing same space.

Interesting, I will try again later. nice, that worked. Thanks. I saw some posts about this tmutil but it was a different command to delete and then it didn't work. But this one you posted worked nice

I've tried the steps in the article linked. Still seeing the same problem. I have plenty of free disk space, but too much is tied up in "purgeable space" Thing of it is, I can install Steam games into the 127 GB free with no problem. It "sees" the free space. Heroic seems to only see the free space-purgeable space. Why?

SOLVED: Here are my steps. First, I had to uninstall the Mac App Store version of Daisy Disk. I had applied for a standalone registration code from them. I reinstalled the standalone version. That version can clear purgeable space. Space purged. Here is Daisy Disk's article: https://daisydiskapp.com/guide/4/en/PurgeableSpace/
