witcher 3 stuck at 10% loading

I recently got a steam deck and downloaded heroic launcher to get gog working for Witcher 3. I used flatpak for the install and everything went smoothly. It’s until I select “new game” and the opening cutscene plays and the tutorial tries to load where it seems to be stuck in a loop with no progress on the loading bar. Sometimes the loading screen will be black with the hints and loading circle still showing other times there will be the normal background. I’ve tried downloading the proton hot fix and checking flatpak for updates using the provided console command in #🆘-support and still can’t get it to work, any help would be appreciated. No mods installed btw

looks like it's trying to read a file from /tmp? make sure Heroic has permissions to read/write to the /tmp folder just in case, you can use Flatseal for that

So I’m looking at heroic on flat seal, how exactly would I allow it permission like you said?

there should be a section in flatseal listing directories heroic has access to

Ah found it lemme try doing that now~ I’m so sorry my brain isn’t working right now where would I find the tmp folder at?

I guess it's at the root of the / , /tmp if you can add a folder writing the path just write /tmp in there I don't have flatseal on this computer to give more details

If you don't have any progress in the game yet, your best bet is to use Wine-GE instead. Proton, especially Proton Hotfix, will not work as well in Heroic Install Wine-GE from the Wine Manager within Heroic, select it in the game settings, enable "Auto Install/Update DXVK on Prefix" & you should be good to go Note that you want to run the DX11 version of the game (in the game settings, expand the "Other" section, click the file picker icon for "Select an alternative EXE to run" and select <path to game>/bin/x64/witcher3.exe)

Sweet will definitely give this a try here in a sec Still no success, I installed wine ge and have it on auto update, and pathed the exe for dx11 and still stuck at loading Here I can grab the log for it in a sec

Hmm, nothing obvious there In terms of in-game settings: Could you make sure that "NVIDIA HairWorks" is turned off?

Yea lemme do that

(you also don't want anything Raytracing-related to be enabled, but that isn't in the DX11 version to begin with, so we're good there)

Very odd Have you tried verifying your game files?

I- 🤦‍♂️ Son of a- The one time The one time I don’t verify the game files because it’s never worked before And it works I mean I’m sure it still needed to run on dx11 and use wine instead of proton and such But shoot thank y’all for your help with my dumbass, true saints

Proton & DX12 would've likely still worked, but with Wine-GE & DX11 you generally get the better experience (Wine provides more logs, so in case anything ever goes wrong, we can likely figure out what; DX11 is just simply faster)
