Discount/Offers for commuting?

I’m starting at Seneca soon and i will be commuting from Mississauga which means i’ll have to take a minimum of two buses to reach the campus. Are there any discounts or offers for students i should look into? Oh and i’m under 19 if that helps. Also if anyone is commuting from Mississauga, let me know if i can join you (I will pay).

you can get a student metropass for the TTC, but it's only marginally cheaper, and unless you are actually making two trips a day * five days a week, it's cheaper to just pay the normal fare than to get any kind of metropass. not sure about the 'sauga side of the equation, sorry

there's a shuttle bus in Brampton, you can commute there instead of taking Square One to Finch, then Finch to Seneca I just don't know where exactly pick/drop off in Brampton

Do i have unlimited trips with the student pass?

You do! But even without it, you get free transfers for two hours after you first pay. So like I was saying it's really only worth it if you are commuting a lot. I have class on three out of five days so it's not worth it for me, but if you're taking multiple trips every day it would be a worthwhile deal

To put it another way, the student metropass is $128.15 and normal fare is $3.30, so you need to take at least 39 trips per month for it to be worthwhile. I take ~24 trips so it's nowhere close, but if you want the additional freedom to take trips all over the city or whatever it's a nice luxury.

Btw u can get a discount for TTC fare, go to a shoppers and ask a rep to change your fare type to student - bring your student ID (or some sort of confirmation of attendance) and some other ID. You can get the fare down from 3.3 to ~2ish bucks

just called shoppers to ask about the student fare thing, lady said you need to go to bathurst station first and show them your proof of attendance, then they'll give you a student TTC id or whatever

you're enrolled in seneca right? if so see if you can set up the seneca onecard app if not, try going to academic records from your student home and you should be able to get an unofficial transcript you could show them

Just came outta Bathurst station with my new student ID... But the lady said the discount only applies to the monthly pass lol. So this is a fail. But I'm heading to Shoppers now just to see it to completion lol Only for seniors or minors. Post-secondary the discount is only for the monthly pass. Just went through the process

Hm maybe they changed it recently or you got unlucky with the reps, I had the discounted fare type for Seneca

probably changed it, cause both the TTC employees at bathurst station and the shoppers person said the same thing, and it's printed directly on my post-secondary photo id "For use only with a TTC Post-Secondary Monthly Pass."

Yep, you have unlimited transfers for two hours. I take advantage of it all the time, like stopping at Costco on my way back from Seneca

IDK if it works between transit systems though, but definitely for the whole TTC network Did a little more research about the "PS1 fare type" that you can get your presto card switched to like I did today, while it only works for the metropass for TTC, it does provide a discount on the regular fare for GO Transit so if you ever take the GO train or bus it might still be worth setting up

GO = green and white TTC = red white black with a blue light that's easy to see from a distance

TTC is for the greater toronto area while GO tends to cover more of the like uh... outskirts i guess you could say? (though you can get to and from downtown toronto via GO)
