The way i did this with including main/nvidia/custom actually can prevent the need to append to files in downstream nvidia/startingpoint, and gives a source of truth for the RPM itself, though it does require changes for the

to be made in

... but i think that's probably not a concern.

OK the mokutil import fails because the mmx file is not in the efi boot directory, so gets file not found

the only way the laptop will boot now is falling back to bios mode. I need to reset mokutil state or otherwise I will need to flash the bios

I commented on the PR regarding that. The inclusion of the NVIDIA config in the "main justfile config RPM" kinda makes sense in a lot of ways.

The issue is the

custom.just

custom.just

, it's currently holding anything added by startingpoint + anything the person making a downstream image wants to add to it (they fork startingpoint and add their own stuff to

custom.just

custom.just

), so we can't include that one in the main config repo.

I'm also unsure about how all of this will work long-term, after just's

directive is on by default. Will we then switch profile.d to insert etc? Or will we tell users to insert the modular pieces they want manually? I think automating it still makes sense for people who don't have a justfile yet. So it's good that we have this framework for patching the now.

the laptop previously had a vanilla F38 Workstation install, then I installed Silverblue with no problems and without nvidia drivers.

I haven't followed the discussion but thought I'd check Fedora Workstation 38 (regular, not immutable):

You can see that mmx64 and grubx64 are different files.

Hmm, I may know the issue... some motherboard BIOSes just don't work properly. I had a very similar issue until updating my BIOS to the latest version (2020 AMD AGESA BIOS -> 2022 version).

Be sure to use the latest BIOS you can find and also enable the "custom secureboot keys" mode in your BIOS, otherwise it will not accept new keys.

You can check the hashes above and see if that helps comparing the files, since they should be the same on Silverblue and Workstation.

I remember that before I updated my BIOS, there were two issues: I could not get the MokUtil enrollment (blue screen) to come up on boot and had to switch out files to get it to show up exactly like you mention, AND even after switching files, the key would NEVER get saved to BIOS no matter how many times I tried to enroll via the blue MokUtil screen.

No matter what I did, it was impossible to find a /boot/efi/EFI component version that worked. Updating BIOS solved everything and it began working with vanilla Fedora EFI files.

Yeah, it's a pain when devices are discontinued. I have one with ancient BIOS that has a bunch of BIOS bugs for sleep/shutdown/reboot. But the good news is that with immutable distros there is less need for secureboot.
