Elgato Camlink Pro doesn't work in any browser, just get an image to download Screen Link app

Anyone know why my Camlink 4k works fine in the 4K Capture Utility, OBS, and even the Windows camera app, but when I try to use my camera in a browser (tried both Chrome and FireFox) I just get a screen telling me to install Screen Link? This is what it looks like - I've even specifically set the camera to be the Camlink 4 device but it keeps showing this image regardless

It’s clearly still hooking the screen link virtual source. Hmm

Never even had it appear before in any app ever - I don't see any Screen Link source in the 4K Capture Utility or OBS Weirdly by uninstalling the 4K Capture utility it hooks onto the Camlink source in the browser perfectly fine, seems like it removes the Screen Link driver or something since Screen Link is no longer an option in the browser Well at least I can confirm that re-installing the 4K Capture Utility causes the issue again

This is the email response I got from an Elgato support rep:
Thank you for your patience while we have looked into this situation. We have heard back from our Senior Technicians and they have provided the following:

As it turns out, the Elgato Cam Link Pro uses a dedicated hardware driver, and will only be compatible with a capture app, like Game Capture HD or OBS. Websites don't use this and so are inconsistent with this driver style capture.

In order to use your capture card as a webcam, you would need one of our UVC devices, like the Cam Link 4k or the HD60 X. Both of these devices utilize the same type of driver as a standard webcam, and will be recognized by any app looking for a webcam source.

I hope this information is helpful, even if it is not what you had hoped to hear.

So weirdly enough the product under the product group Camlink does not use the same camera drivers used in the other product with the same product group

I mean there’s really only 2 camlinks, not much of a group But yeah it’s a pcie card so it’s not uvc

Not surprised about that, just surprised that the driver is not necessarily compatible with browsers
