Is close enough fine?
No, you don't want close enough. If you want a suit then the exact same fabric is required. For wearing it as a sports coat, your trousers should not be blue. E.g. mid grey flannels
would it really be that notciable for the two shades to be slightly different
Yep. Human eyes are quite good at determining small differences in colour, pattern, texture, sheen etc.
Have you got a picture of the two fabrics side by side in the same light?
sadly no
You got two separate pieces? I thought you got a suit.
This one? https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1134024046162489364/1134044177680834570 that's quite a suity suit jacket tbh
I see you mentioned it's for going to see Oppenheimer? In that case you can probably get away with some mid-gray trousers or similar, as I doubt anyone will notice, and it's just for fun.
But I wouldn't wear not-quite-identical trousers with that jacket to a serious occasion like a job interview
When I was a tween I wore my dad's 80s olive-grey business suit to a costume party as a safari explorer, with a DIY pith helmet and cane. Did it make sense? Not really. Was it fun? Yep
Alright
Just wear grey trousers and do separates. Only like 3 people in the world will be able to notice and will care
so its better to , just get a different color instead of trying to match the color
Unless you can get basically the exact same fabric yeah. Like take the jacket to a suit maker like Suit Supply or Hall Madden and go through all of their books to find basically an exact match.
It’s much better to just wear it as a separate, even tho it looks v suit-y imo
Alright thanls lol
Agreed, go European and do a "broken suit."
Do you also think khakis will look good?
not sure which would looks better with burgundy shoes
Gray, brown, and cream are my go-tos for a navy jacket. Taupe and olive can be good. Khaki can work, probably, but it's not one I have tried.
light or dark gray
Mid grey.
