Opinions on Navy Blazer fit
Hey guys, so you might remember around a week ago I was looking to buy my first navy blazer as I was trying to broaden my fashion sense. I was looking at a lot of Ralph Lauren blazers and finally managed to snag one for £50. It's a FW16 Chino blazer and just wanted to know what people thought of the fit on me and whether the sleeves are long enough/do I need to do any jacket alterations. Sorry if pictures are a bit shit.. Thanks!

Looks about long enough overall however you should try on a dress shirt/long sleeve shirt to see how much shirt is revealed when standing in a neutral position. Don't want to show too much but definitely don't want it hidden completely. I'll let others comment on fit.
I think for OTR, it's a decent fit based on the pics you've provided (I second @x_divider RE: dress shirt pics).
The fabric and finishing details on this are going to make this a much more casual blazer than something in wool, but this is also probably easier for someone just starting out with blazers to get more comfortable with wearing them. Plus side: you can wear this to get a beer without a lot of sideways glances. Minus side: you probably can't wear this if your workplace is very traditional/conservative.
All in all, it's a good 'first' pickup. Post fits, and don't be afraid to experiment! (This coming from a guy who's lowkey terrified of breaking too many 'rules')
I want this jacket.
But you have helped me immensely because now I know that the term to search for is "chino jacket"
You could also try cotton blazer/sport coat
J crew had a few chino jackets last season that were kicking around in their sale
Really hard to tell from those pics. Best to use a self timer
Nothing in my size anymore, unfortunately.
Okay here it is with a shirt
I tried everywhere but I don't have somewhere to rest my phone to take a good portrait happy to go to the tailor too if you guys think something needs adjusting
Also does anyone know what pants/trousers work with blue blazers? I'm assuming khaki but not sure what else lol
Charcoal or khaki are classic
@xdivider @callthatgoing just posted a pic with long sleeve. Thanks for your advice
Glad it's helped. It's really soft to feel. Definitely not structured but I wanted something casual for my first blazer to test out before diving into the good stuff hahaha
For that particular jacket, maybe khaki or medium/light gray.
But you could do a lot, even something like pink or plaid if you want to lean in to preppy
Try it with jeans too
It’s a touch short in the sleeves — a quick visit to a tailor can fix it easily.
Looks like you should lengthen your sleeves. Everything else seems okay unless we get better photos (natural light, someone else taking the photos)
@skii2k Stone/cream etc work well. Can do brown as well. Maybe a light to mid brown?
Seconding lengthening the sleeves. 1" to 1/4" is ideal. I prefer 1/2".
Thanks all for the recommendations. I will get it dry cleaned and see if I can get the sleeves slightly adjusted. Ill also see if I can get someone to take a picture of me so I can model it properly instead of a selfie!
Put your phone in a mug
Well I took the jacket to a tailor and they recommended against extending the sleeves because they believe the crease from the current length will not come out due to the soft cotton fabric. This is just one tailor's opinion but interested in what you guys think
They're most likely correct
Reasonable if annoying.
Simon mentions a similar thing about a cord jacket he has. That fabric was different tho so it hid the stitching lines and crease pretty well iirc. I can't seem to find the article atm
Yeah it's not super short so I'll stick with it. It's something I didn't even consider so I'm glad the tailor pointed it out
