I’d strongly recommend batching (and keeping your batch wait time low if you have latency needs) - processing only one message per invocation will never scale

I was thinking about this as well - but at the moment I have one main pages app that's built on the Remix framework. I am hesitant to have 2 big projects with frameworks that need deploying and active maintentance etc. Rather would have one code base, one CI/CD etc.

But maybe the seperate approach would be better. I mean it's probably faster and maybe I can even split functionality at a good point where workers do x features and pages does y features... Kind of like having micro services for some things in seperate workers.

for the "reverse-proxy" worker, I'd probably just proxy the request with a plain js worker. If I want actual functionality on the worker, I definitely want it to be a remix project as well. Not sure if the set up is worth it. + I'd need to elevate the database scheme up somehow so they are accessible by both projects...

For example in my SaaS when an user creates an order but does not finish the payment in 10 minutes I need to cancel the order and update stock numbers etc. Currently I'm doing this by running a CRON jon every minute and reading items from the DB. Problem is that it would be a lot more scalable if I could use a Queue where the items would start off with the an initial delay and once that goes away that would mean that the item can be consumed from the queue ( = cancel the order). Having individial consumert instead of a single CRON job worker would be a lot cleaner.

i hit an issue where one noisy user caused a backlog in my queue of multiple hours and im currently implementing a priority queue and expiring messages on top of the cloudflare queue. would be great if they were native features

This is a blocker. I have a Remix full stack cloudflare pages app that produces messages and a worker that consumes them. They way my project is set up, the worker doesn't have a ORM or any framework, it's just a helper so I can have a queue consumer.

Hi there,
We have a project based on cloudflare workers & queues. We currently have 1 queue with this config ( batch size:50, wait time: 3 sec, msg retries: 1, max concurrency: 10). The workers send batches of messages to the queue and sometimes it gets overloaded thus we expected auto scaling to work, but we've not yet seen auto scaling(concurrency) working there.

So basically I want to locally debug the queue producer and queue consumer. The queue producer is a cloudflare pages app, built on Remix. The queue consumer is a worker with plain typescript, no framework.

I kept the worker that simple intentionally because it doesn't need database access or routing or whatever, it's basically a proxy for queue consumption (because cloudflare pages apps can't consume from a queue yet and other limitations).

If it was possible, I would use only the pages app as the producer and consumer. But my solution with having a separate consumer and producer is really not even what I want, but cloudflare's restriction of me not being able to use pages for everything means I need to split queue production and consumption.

I can't put the queue consumption into the pages app because pages apps can't be consumers. I can't put the queue production into the worker script because I don't have access to database and everything there.

Currently I just have a route on the pages app that I use as a workaround, but not being able to locally test pages<->workers communication via a queue is not nice

Hi! In the Known Issues for Local Dev, the documentation explain the producer and consumer need to be on the same worker.
How to do when multiple workers need to be a producer, but we only need one consumer ? After each line changed of our consumer code, we need to copy it to our ~20 workers that are producers ?
I known it's temporary, but it's really not useful to start to works with Queue. Do you have any suggestion to make it more useful please?

From the documentation: « Each queue can only have one consumer Worker connected to it. If you try to connect multiple consumers to the same queue, you will encounter an error when attempting to publish that Worker. »
So, if we have different workers that are producers to the same queue, how can we make only one consumer in local dev ?
