Cannot use xbox one controller in Rocket League

I recently switched to linux and am unfamiliar with how things work. I tried the solutions in earlier posts on this topic but none are working. What I've done so far:

I added rocket league to steam through the Heroic Games Launcher
Updated game settings in steam to enable xbox controller and enable steam input
I ran the commands listed here (https://www.gloriouseggroll.tv/how-to-get-out-of-wine-dependency-hell/) for my instance (Linux Mint 21.2 Cinnamon)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

there is an alternative driver called xpadneo-dkms that sometimes works.

if you haven't installed xboxdrv, xbox-generic-controller, and xone-dkms then make sure you have all three
