Part of the reason Cloudflare can offer so affordable products is that they aren't durable and only run on request - even if they did offer such products I don't think they would necessarily be much different than AWS' (fairly decent) EC2 rates.

The model of nodejs apps/actual servers is just a bit messy too, have to spin them up and down, worry about regions, etc

The Workers model can fit a lot of use cases, espec with DOs and such, I would rather a future where that sort of architecture becomes more common and dx around it gets better

i get it. the regions part is particullarly messy. but the ecosystem around DO servers is too strong to give up for the edge network

D1 is available without Workers via the Cloudflare API, but it's rate limited since the API wasn't designed specifically for D1, just Cloudflare products in general.

I'm unsure, don't think the roadmap is public and even if it is, teams don't generally commit to anything concretely.

The only thing I would keep in mind with D1's API is that it's going to be slower, sometimes considerably then via a Worker
