Streaming Pixelation and Artifacts during mmo rpg gameplay.

Hey fellas. I have been dealing with quality issues during streaming only when playing open world mmo rpgs. More specifically, when I am moving or rotating, there is increased amount of artifacts. Something which I am not facing in FPS or TPS games. Is there some type of special settings in OBS to alleviate that issue? Thanks.

Can you post screenshots of the settings you're using in OBS And an OBS log would be helpful too

You're scaling your resolution to 936p - don't do that. Either keep it at 1080p or scale it down to 720p Don't bother with weird resolutions like 960p, 936p, or 900p You're also streaming at 120fps which will work on twitch through the "source" quality setting on the player, but 8mbps will not be enough even for 720p120 to look good

Problem is at 60fps the stream is lagging or frame dropping I am not sure how that works but it does for me At 60 fps it seems like I am streaming at 25 or something

Do you have a log where you streamed at 60 fps and this issue happened
Palmaurian
Palmaurian13mo ago
sadly no want me to replicate a quick one? guarantee the issue will be there

If not a stream then a recording with the same settings would work

Is the recording stuttery?
Palmaurian
Palmaurian13mo ago
Yeap Like you can see it it's not 60 frames Well visually

Are you able to upload and share it
Palmaurian
Palmaurian13mo ago
Yes it might take a bit. Working on it now

Also another note. When at 60fps, the whole stream is lagging in general. And the PC as well. When at 120fps, not however.

Still looks like the same relative smoothness Sure you just aren't used to "more than 60fps"?

Well Maybe it is the game perhaps. Let me try CoD really quick.

That log was A)at 120 B)had no stream in it And your capture card is pulling in at 144hz Your whole chain seems bonkers

Palmaurian13mo ago
Alright, what shall I fix?
Fcenturylink
Fcenturylink13mo ago
Cap game at 120, change capture card to 120hz/fps. Test stream at 60fps
Palmaurian
Palmaurian13mo ago
love that emote Caping games at 120 is causing problems sadly 😦 At 240hz or 144hz I feel considerable difference However I will give it a try And let you know

HunterAP13mo ago
I'm assuming this is a 2PC setup since you have a Live Gamer 4K Are you using display cloning or passthrough with the capture card?
Palmaurian
Palmaurian13mo ago
Projection CoD HATES A LOT, passthrough When I pick the capture card as main monitor yeah, the stutter is real in game So now in order to function I gotta 240hz and project
HunterAP
HunterAP13mo ago
So you have OBS open on a different monitor on the gaming PC, you're capturing the game there, then you're capturing the OBS projection through the capture card so it gets to your 2nd PC
Palmaurian
Palmaurian13mo ago
Indeed.

HunterAP13mo ago
So the things you should be doing is setting the OBS instance on the gaming PC to capture 60fps and do the same on the stream PC, and disable the OBS preview on the gaming PC That's really the best you can do with this setup.
Palmaurian
Palmaurian13mo ago
Yeah I have disabled the preview already Shall the capture card send 144hz or 60?

HunterAP13mo ago
60

At a quick glance the system is being overloaded, probably the CPU, as there's an entry for the audio buffer lagging behind Also you're using OBS 30 RC1 which isn't exactly meant for production use, it's still basically a beta. You may want to consider going back to OBS 29 On a different note, you seam to have some StreamFX filters in use but don't have StreamFX installed - it's best to remove any filters and such that you're not using / no longer work Some other small stuff - For streaming you'll want to disable lookahead - I'm not seeing any render or encoder lag but you'll still want to consider dropping to the p6 preset and using multipass quarter res - Change the encoder profile from main to high
Fcenturylink
Fcenturylink13mo ago
You need to stop a stream before getting the log because the stats for render and encoding lag don't get added until the output has stopped Also, you have a bunch of media sources. Some are set to shut down/close when not in use, but there are a bunch that aren't set to that

Alright guys, I'll follow those instructions and let you know back soon. Thank you. https://obsproject.com/logs/wjlhNfPbQT2QHfWD
