Baldurs Gate 3 crashes before loading menu after patch 4.

Seem to be getting a new crash after patch 4. Have tried forcing any new updates a few times and just tried to run a repair to see if that would solve the issue. Attaching the log, also getting a couple of pop ups that there seems to be something going wrong with wine; currently attempting to launch with latest Proton-GE:

use wine, delete the prefix directory, try again, post a log if it still doesn't work

I'd recommend moving your prefix dir here We don't want to accidentally delete save files

you can rename it to be like "Back_Baldurs Gate 3" that'd be sufficient

Yeah moving/renaming it to be anything other than what it is right now works Just gotta be careful with that folder, since your save file's in there

kk, no luck, crashes when using vulkan, and directx11 does get me to the menu, but then the menu icons all disappear

This looks fun I remember @OOOOOF123 taking about issues with this game, and I'm pretty sure they're on an AMD GPU as well, so maybe they could try to reproduce this crash? (looking for an AMD GPU here since it does seem to be something Vulkan-related)

I know a good number on protondb have reported similar issues with the Vulkan drivers

take out the game scope stuff i don't think you want game mode on, and you might as well turn off mango hud for now until we get it working turn off nvidia dedicated graphics

my mouse, OS, or heroic froze a while back and it installed like half the options

verify and repair the game, delete the prefix directory, and then install vcrun2022 again

this was like 3 weeks ago ok. i did all that earlier (except vcrun2022) but its worth doing again i proly messed something up i will rename the prefix. I renamed the game prefix and deleted wine-GE-latest prefix and reinstalled and verified and repaired game. vcrun install said hash mismatch so there is a new vcrun 2022 or something

no, not really the logs are giving me more info than that try installing d3dcompiler_43 and d3dcompiler_47 through winetricks, but the game still might be broken and then one more thing, hold up

I think it installed but it doesn't say current version: no difference I guess I'll try installing windowsdesktop-runtime-6.0.25-win-x64.exe game runs just need to delete those two prefixes and install windowsdesktop-runtime-6.0.25-win-x64.exe (perhaps vcrun2022 too) I figured out one problem

pfx are kept somewhere else. at least my new one doesn't have that and runs the game fine. looks more like a steam game prefix like a proton ge or gamescope type thing did that

fwiw you get a pfx folder in your prefix when you try to use proton on a game instead of wine-ge so if at any point you ran proton, the proton prefix is in the pfx folder, while the wine one is on the "external" folder heh

I figured out how this happens. on my system while working with bg3 if you try to use winetricks through heroic to install dotnet472 it installs every other dotnet at the same time and a bunch of other fk up stuff for no reason and destroys the prefix and also makes bg3 not able to launch immediately or if you restart your system or something.
