Heroic not picking up installed games post re-image
Hi all, I had to re-image deck after catching the dreaded 200-1040 bug and have just reinstalled Heroic. My games are still on the SD card but Heroic isn't picking them up as installed. I assume I need to point something to the game file on the card but I'm not sure how to do it. Thanks š«¶

you have to import the games if you lost the configuration files of heroic
when you click the install button, in the modal you can click Import Game
you have to do it for each game though

Awesome thanks - the only thing that hasn't synced are the saves. I made sure for all games I went to the sync saves section and did a manual download/upload (just in case) but when I log into Witcher there's nothing there - just 'new game'

it depends if you were syncing saves before
I think there's a command that forces the download of saves if there's any (the default is to download only the new ones), if depends if the game is epic or gog though

So before I did a re-image on the deck I did a manual sync in Heroic (upload and download). It's gog btw
Showed the number of files on local and in cloud and all looked good.

@Linguin do you know how to force download cloud saves with gogdl on the steam deck? sorry for the ping, you probably know this by memory

isn't that the option in sync?
there is force upload and force download apart from normal ones
environmental-roseā¢2y ago
oh I forgot about that, I never use cloud saves haha
@J-Lo try the force download option in the cloud saves screen

Yea I did a force upload before I reset my deck, and now I tried force download and nothing is showing in game.

is the saves path correct in that screen? if you go to that path in your system, do you see the cloud save files? maybe the path is wrong

Yea they file that the game is pointing to is full of saves. But they're not the cloud saves, right? They're the local ones I assume. I'm guessing there are some in the gog cloud and it's those that aren't syncing for some reason. Or is that not how it works?

can you share one example of a game that has files in that path?
share a game log and the path that shows up in the cloud saves

The saves are definitely there, and it's the right path but when I start the game I only get 'new game'
Does heroic use the local saves when launching, or somehow the saves in the gog cloud?
environmental-roseā¢2y ago
your configured path for cloud saves ends with
The Witcher 3/gamesaves/gamesaves/gamesaves
, I don't think that should say gamesaves
3 times
change that to end with .../The Witcher 3/gamesaves
and download them againyappiest-sapphireā¢2y ago
I noticed this earlier -- you seem to have your game installs and prefixes going to the same base folder
<sd>/GOG/

just of note: in systems like gog or egs or steam "cloud saves" are just local saves pushed to your account space on those services various save storage services.. when you sync to the cloud, those platforms simply push your current data if its newer, up to the cloud.. when you sync from the cloud to your local machine, it just goes the other way, back to your local save location. but at the end of the day, the saves you see in game are stored locally on your machine..
Games expect this folder to be in a particular place, and each game can be pretty unique about this. Thus if heroic isnt set up to point at the location that the game expects, downloading a cloud save into the lcoal save folder (as configured in heroic) wont align with the one the game expects, and thus, empty saves.

Really appreciate your help @termdisc @Allora @arieljuod - I deleted all the files, pointed to the correct one and forced the download again... all good now šš»
