Understanding PEO, HRIS, and their implications
What is PEO?
PEO stands for Professional Employers Organization. It's a service where companies contract another entity to manage their HR functions comprehensively. This includes:
- Payroll
- HR tasks
- Benefits management
Examples of PEOs:
- Trinet
- Insperity
- ADP TotalSource
- Sequoia
What is HRIS?
HRIS stands for Human Resources Information System. It typically manages a function (or several functions) of HR but not everything.
Examples of HRIS:
- ADP WorkforceNow
- Workday
- BambooHR
How does this relate to OE?
PEOs and OE:
- Rippling: Appears to be OE-friendly based on user experiences. For instance, when one logs into Rippling, they may encounter a message indicating that while the new company can access personal data like tax IDs for payment, they cannot access details about other employers.
- Insperity: Not recommended for managing multiple jobs. There have been incidents of job conflicts due to the PEO's inability to handle multiple full-time positions.
- Trinet: Modifies the work email to the most recent job, revealing the existence of multiple jobs.
- ADP TotalSource: You can have multiple jobs but can't receive benefits from both.
