Where to shop + how to accessorize

Recently got back into fashion, these are the vibes I've been going with (lots of dark academia inspiration, with some androgyny). I'm not sure where to look for more clothes like this, and would also like to add some accessorizing (something a little bit edgy but still cohesive, just a little throwback to my edgy goth teenager years). Would also love shoe recommendations!

May I suggest a beret for slightly edgy but cohesive with a preppy look? Also you might try Jcrew for more clothes in this style

ya lots of directions you could go. drapey goth a la joel and yohji, classic goth using 70s/80s musicians as inspo, or go more punk-adjacent. the world is your oyster

orion7mo ago
probably gonna lean more punk tbh! might do bone-themed stuff

check out undercover, probably out your budget (mine too) but great inspo

For inspo brands (eg: expensive) you don't see a ton of cross over between punk and ivy imo. Maybe some of Wacko Maria for inspo? Aime Leon Dore at times?

yeah a lack of inspo is what's been getting me

I feel like the primary signifiers that Westwood took from sometimes had those elements? The plaid skirts? I'm really outta the loop on her stuff but I felt like that blended some elements

undercover aw13 is bone-themed

Might be elements from Vivienne Westwood and maybe even Ann Demeulemeester that could provide inspo? good call

Ann is more gothic than goth, I'd not get too concerned with her stuff from what I've seen amongst the big enthusiasts

Berets >>> Your fits are already pretty cohesive imo, would look for more knitwear on eBay. Try to find some sweaters in nice wool and avoid blends. Maybe dip into blood red? It’s a good pop of color to add to a DA wardrobe as it brings a bit of edge but remains in that realm.

Berets can look good but you can also just look like a guy in a beat poet costume Don’t make judgements based on gender especially when they mention androgyny in the initial topic smiles
Dexter
Dexter7mo ago
You have to be tactical with their deployment but a beret serves a DA wardrobe 100x better then a baseball cap lol.

Please just go thrifting and buy whatever you can afford that fits your idealized style and color palette I was in your shoes not long ago and it'll get you by during your student years until you can start working and affording nicer stuff, by then you'll have done enough experimentation with cheap thrifted finds to know what you like Echoing what others have said to gather as much inspiration and education for free online in the meantime to establish and refine your sense of taste Save big(ish) ticket items like a new pair of docs for gift-giving holidays if you can't splurge on them just yet Do not buy a beret
