Sorry if this is too off topic, but what’s the state of Nvidia on Linux? Is it still garbage?
Or really I guess to be more specific about my goals, if I want to upgrade from my RX580 to something that can run Alan Wake II without looking like a slide show, is there something I can get that also isn’t trash on Linux but also wouldn’t be a downgrade in performance from the 8GB RX 580… without spending more than maybe $200?
Nvidia is pretty good nowadays, but it's still not as plug and play as AMD is (for instance, their newest driver is having issues with Wayland right now.) If you want a headache-free experience, go with AMD still.
As for GPUs, perhaps look at the RX 6600 XT? If you're at 1080p, it's about 50% more performance and you can easily find it for around 200 USD nowadays
Nvidia isn't exactly garbage, but their drivers introduce weird bugs, their wayland support is not very good, and gamescope and waydroid do not work properly with them. AMD is king. Although I'm seeing ARC brought up, but iirc their drivers on linux are still lacking
Very bad, it's a terrible device and I regret purchasing it. It has difficulty doing anything above SNES emulation, but not because of the hardware. It's because the sticks kill your hands when you try to use them.
