SGot #327 all set up yesterday and I'm loving it! The DCS Apache trim system finally makes sense. One question: when I hold trim release the stick feel is a little too loose. Does changing the damping slider in VPConfig affect this or does DCS override those settings?
SAlso, the fan seems to come on a lot. It's no big deal since I don't even notice it when wearing headphones. But at what temperature should I start making changes to my settings to keep temps down?
EThe throw is 22 degrees to one direction. My WinWing F16EX grip weighs maybe 1 kg. That is 10 N. The height of the joystick might be something like 0,2 m from the gimbal center - depending heavily on the extension of course. Therefore, with this grip and total throw we can calculate the momentum of the grip to the gimbal. With 22 degrees and 0,2 m height you get 0,075 m of travel on at the bottom of triangle. That means the momentum is 0,075 m * 10 N = 0,75 Nm.
If we were to add Z-extension that brings the joystick 0,1 meters towards you that will change the calculation. It not going to be exactly 0,1 meters more momentum but precision is good enough for usage. So we would get 0,175 m * 10 Nm = 1,75 Nm momentum from the grip with the Z-extension. So roughly 1 Nm of required compensation for the Z-extension.
Of course this doesn't include the weight of the extension. However, most of the momentum comes from the grip because it weighs more and is further from the center.
With a weight put on the pulley the force could be counteracted. If the weight is attached outside the belt - say 0,06 meters from the center of gimbal. 1 Nm / 0,06 m = 16,7 N --> 1,7 kg. Thats quite a heavy weight. The bearing shouldn't be a problem but I wonder how problematic it would be for the motors. Nevertheless, the maximum throw is probably not the best way to compensate the extension if we consider a solid weight. Additionally, less weight is required when stick is centered.
A spring attached to the cog might be better option since the force required increases as the spring is loaded. This would put lesser force when the stick is centered and more force when stick is pulled, which is ideal

SI'm hitting low-mid 50's on the y-axis flying DCS helos.
KEverything below 55-60°C is normal doing dogfighting. For helicopter flying you should use the trim more often. I never have the fans on while helicopter flying
SI'm getting the hang of it. It's a whole new way of flying! Very happy with stick feel when messing around with parameters outside DCS but those settings don't seem to transfer when playing DCS. Specifically, the damping seems much lower when holding Apache trim release vs how it feels outside the sim messing with settings.

Nyou should always do your adjustments to the joystick settings while in the aircraft. When not in DCS, the settings in configurator directly affect the feeling of the axis. I.e., %100 spring force will be the max the rhino can give you. But what it is really doing is setting the upper boundary for a parameter.
As a highly generic example, a sim like DCS will say "give me %50 spring force". That's not necessarily the same as what you would feel with the configurator slider set at %50. What it will result in is %50 of whatever the current slider value is at. So if DCS said %50, and your slider was at %80, the feeling would equate to your slider being at %40 when not in a sim that is commanding the joystick via FFB.

SI didn't see anything in the configurator for different aircraft profiles. Is that a thing?
Nnot via configurator. If you get it all set up for a specific aircraft, you can export the profile and then use TelemFFB to automatically load it when you switch to that aircraft.

LSo how does the WinWing adapter work? I have a couple WinWing grips I would love to use, but I'm kind of confused about how it works. I know the WW grips use a different 6pin din connector vs the 5pin, but I was under the impression the WW grips had some kind of processing inside the grip.
Does the full functionality still carry over to the rhino? Would SimAppPro recognize the grip?
Would this same adapter allow a WW grip to work on a Virpil/TM base also?

VIs there someplace that states current wait time for getting one? Trying to decide if I should fill out the order form or if it is fruitless at this stage of the game. The only info I found is from July when it was a year wait
CThere is no cost to get on the wait list, so no reason not to. Also it seems like a lot of people are not able to purchase them when they come up. So it seems like most people are getting their orders sooner than expected, albeit it's still a decent wait.

JThe adapter translates the full functionality of the WW grip to the Rhino. You will have all the extra buttons and axis. One exception is probably the stick shaker that is integrated in some WW grips. But with the Rhino you have a better option for these effects anyway. Don't know about the SimAppPro. I also don't know but doubt very much that the adapter would make the ww grip work on a virpil/TM base. I believe it is working withe the rhino only.
VGood to know. I use a VKG gunfighter 3 with the MCGU grip. Wondering if it will be too heavy. I also have the older plastic MCG but rather not go back to it.
