When you edit things in an ntfs partition on Linux, it is likely that Windows will eventually register the drive as corrupted, and attempt to repair it, which will probably work but is mildly sketchy
That was not condescending. That is the solution, and I was cordially recommending a cheap, simple solution as I would do so for a friend or family member without judgment
I really would recommend a backup drive just in case. Reformatting a drive in-place means juggling and replacing several million pointers with a totally different organizational system and hoping several trillion numbers end up in the right places without any mishaps
