im thinking it might have something to do with leaf color changing in biomes? theres a very obvious shift in color for these shrubs for instance

the orange leaf type is birch, meaning a mod probably changed that the shrubs are oak though so that discoloration is still weird maybe something to look into?

Thats just a quark of the way DH deals with leaf textures Try recreating the issue with just BOP and DH

interesting, it doesnt seem to occur the birch leaves are also normal green when i have just BOP and DH so it might be a foliage mod ill do more testing

@MarijnIsN00B found the incompatibility, the issue is with the mod "passable leaves" https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/kurisus-passable-leaves
CurseForge
[Kurisu's] Passable Leaves
It does what it says, lets you run through leaves. But wait there is more 14.3K Downloads | Mods

i guess making leaves something you can move through makes DH lod generation go wacky with them

DH has a feature where LODs can ignore non solid blocks, you can disable it by setting "blocks to ignore" to "none"

wait so DH wont render things like webs either?

If its a non solid block, DH will ignore it Not sure if webs count tho since it does slow you But you can always turn it off in the setting I referred to earlier
