Rebel Galaxy Outlaw crash after logo intro video
I have installed the GoG version of RGO via Heroic. I'm currently using Proton-8.0, but have tried experimental as well as 7.27.
I then installed the two redistributables found in the installation folder MSVC2015 and MSVC2019 via Heroic's winetricks.
The game launcher will load, and I've deselected all visual items (see pic below). After launching the game, however, I see the "Double Damage" intro video, and the game crashes immediately afterwards.

dont use proton-ge, use wine-ge and post new logs
fwiw this game works fine for me on a regular desktop, so it should work
i would also go to heroic's advanced settings and click the "apply known winetriccks fixes automatically"
before you launch with wine-ge

I had this problem after uninstalling the flatpak version of Bottles on Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon. It has to do one of five or six dependencies that Bottles installs, that Rebel Galaxy: Outlaw needs to run
I figured it out by complete chance, but I thought I'd share my findings as I work through the solution. Maybe someone else who's a stronger linux user can help me.

It's definitely not the Bottles software, itself. WINE must need one or more of these packages installed on the system to run Rebel Galaxy: Outlaw:

They're all Flatpak packages. I've went through my journalctl -xe output, and these are the package names and versions:
- runtime/org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.default/x86_64/24.08
- runtime/org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.default/x86_64/24.08extra
- runtime/org.freedesktop.Platform.GL32.default/x86_64/24.08
- runtime/org.freedesktop.Platform.GL32.nvidia-550-120/x86_64/1.4
- runtime/org.freedesktop.Platform.ffmpeg-full/x86_64/24.08
- runtime/org.freedesktop.Platform.ffmpeg_full.i386/x86_64/24.08
- runtime/org.gnome.Platform.Compat.i386/x86_64/47
- runtime/org.gnome.Platform.Compat.i386/x86_64/47
- runtime/org.winehq.Wine.gecko/x86_64/stable-24.08
- runtime/org.winehq.Wine.mono/x86_64/stable-24.08
To clarify, when I uninstalled Bottles, RG:O crashed for me while loading. I'd get a little bit of a loading bar, and then the application would stop.
I think it's probably the GL extensions and Nvidia GL extensions
It's a guess, but installing Bottles on your SteamDeck might be a faster way to get those dependencies installed, so that you can try again 🙂

heroic's flatpak should install with all the needed dependencies.. i should try this game on my deck
if it doesnt have the right dependencies, you can try the forced update/reinstall noted in the readme firs tpost
this should fix any broken dependencies

It should, but it apparently does not
I should uninstall Bottles, then do an update to see if that resolves the dependencies issue.
But if it doesn't, then the dependencies aren't being captured for some reason
I'll try it
