TSo does that mean adding games (located in windows) to my steam library on Linux is fine so long as I don’t go into the Windows C drive and manually change things?
Amm, tbh i'm not completely sure, I haven't tried doing a shared partition for steam games. it'd probably be better to ask Snacks on the LGO discord, since he's actually running a setup already
Amy understanding is that game assets can be saved to the shared partition, and it'll work across both Windows and Linux

Hif the compatdata folder is already there delete it (from linux, NOT windows)

if you have done it correctly there should be a
ln -s /home/$USER/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata compatdataif you have done it correctly there should be a
compatdatasteamappspress enter and you are done and pray it does not break in an update

ISome games will run with compatdata on NTFS, but it's highly recommended to locate them on a native linux partition.
Also, some games will not run in linux with their files on NTFS, but most will.

THere’s the thing, most of my games are non steam (GOG) Xbox and elsewhere. I dont have most of them added to my steam library on the windows side so there’s no point me linking the steam directory from windows to the Linux side. Maybe I should add all these games to my library on the windows side and then link the compatdata suggestions you made?

Hthe command essentially puts a redirect file (called a symlink) that points to the compatdata folder in your steamlibrary in your home directory
Hjust make sure you rightclick and open terminal inside the windows
steamapps
