Region Request: GCP Regions
Would love to see parity with PlanetScale on regions, particularly with the ability to deploy to GCP in addition to AWS. https://planetscale.com/docs/concepts/regions

Selecting a region during database and branch creation.

Is this because you're hosting applications in GCP?

+1, came here just for this. Would really like to see Neon on GCP's
us-central1
. Pairing Neon with Google Cloud Run would be amazing.other-emerald•2y ago
@mgreenw our long term plan is to make Neon available in every cloud, keep an eye on our roadmap here for updates.

Great to hear that, thank you @Joe Drumgoole!

Neon will be perfect with CloudRun.

Would love to try Neon if it had GCP regions available 🚀

+1 for gcp!

Is it only a commercial issue or is there technical concern to resolve ?
"GCP: Instance is being cloned. This may take a few minutes" 😩

Joe's previous message still stands. No updates to share on GCP enablement at the moment.

Is there a publicly visible roadmap?
harsh-harlequin•14mo ago
no. Anything you're interested in seeing?

very interested in ETA on availability for GCP, exact desired use-case would be to connect CloudRun to Neon in GCP from my VPC (via private service connect? https://cloud.google.com/vpc/docs/private-service-connect) i.e. not connect to Neon through the public internet. Working on an ambitious-for-me side project that I'm hoping I can have live by ~early 2025~

I don't think this timeline is possible for Neon GCP support
wise-white•14mo ago
Darn, ok, thanks

If this is a greenfield project, could you run it in azure or aws?
also have you seen the "allowed IP addresses" feature on neon?
wise-white•14mo ago
I could, its just about preferences/tradeoffs, i.e. do I prefer Neon strongly enough to sacrifice my GCP preference... not sure yet but probably not. But will definitely keep an eye out and experiment a little more for dev/test, branching is very cool and depending on how slowly things go for me it might work out. The "allowed IP addresses" are certainly better than nothing, and realistically would maybe be ok for this project, but conservatism from the day job bleeds over... Whitelisting IPs is not enough (from a conservative enterpris-ey POV) for a lot of even mildly sensitive data (healthcare, financial, etc).

The issue is latency (or not ?). I tried some month ago in Frankfurt (GCP and AWS are there), it was ok but the egress was expensive at this time (before the change of billing). Never tried in prod. I wonder if it would be reliable in prod today. Do you have experiences on that ?
I believe the coming of Azure will be a good test for the next providers !

Sorry for resuscitating an old thread, but has there been any progress on this?
Context: We are running our services on GKE and use Neon for our DBs. We are in GCPs Frankfurt region and have our Neon projects in AWS Frankfurt.
Despite this the latency is quite high.

GCP is not currently on the roadmap. What are the latencies when comparing alloydb in frankfurt and neon in frankfurt on a warm compute?
