(Another) Leather belt query - width
Hey all,
I've decided to treat myself with a nice belt and received one yesterday, but the width is 40mm (1.57 inches) which I find is just a little wide for a lot of the belt loops on my clothing.
It 'fits' but I don't really want to risk wear and tear from a thick heavy leather.
As such, I'm looking at some alternatives from the same maker, Barnes and Moore: https://www.barnesandmoore.co.uk/shop
They have a slightly slimmer 'Garrison' belt which is 38mm (1.4 inches), although I'm thinking that it might be better still to opt for one of their 'slim' belts for a more all-purpose offering - something I can wear with jeans, but also with chinos, etc.
This is 32mm (or 1.25 inches), example here:

Does this width sound like it should be a good all-purpose belt for casual wear?
I know everything has got a bit wider/bigger in recent times, so maybe I'm just out off by the use of the word 'slim' 😂 .
On a side note, they have some belts with 'roller' buckles, but I can't really work out what the purpose/advantage/disadvantage would be beyond an aesthetic choice. Any pointers on that would be appreciated too!

it doesn't look bad aesthetically but traditionally casual belts run larger; i would see how the 1.4 works out.
you could also go to a local store and try on terrible belts to get a sense of width before pulling the trigger on the nicer one
and the 'roller' serves two functions- it helps the belt pull more easily and prevents the belt from being marked by the buckle
Awesome, thank you. I've got a few belts here so I may measure them to get an indication of what the 1.4inch may be like - trying on some belts in store is a good idea too!
(TBH the width was something I completely overlooked prior to ordering - but measurements are obviously important with everything I guess!)
Good info on the roller also - thanks.
I think you're in the UK so check out Hollows Leather at eastwestapparel. They have a pretty good selection and are currently on sale
thank you - will take a look!
