so subjective, green for me because black could be overwhelming
I like the dark squirrel personally, because it would mesh with more of my wardrobe, but if you have the color pallette to support it, the black is hot
hmm I feel like my wardrobe is quite diverse in terms of colours for pants I got brown, black, grey, teal, Cream
didnt think about the black being too overwhelming I think in the daytime pic it doesnt seem to overwhelming but still undecided
These are all the colours in my weardobe Yh I know it’s squished but can’t do anything about it : (
Yeah really feeling green, black would drown a lot of those pieces out
Seconded I think green
hmm ok I do think the black one has a more gloomy vibe to it if that makes sense do you think the green one does too?
not really; i think the 'gloomy' vibe comes moreso when the collar is fully done up and the fabric just hangs rather than drapes as when the collar is open
the lookbook photos from lemaire don't really help either but that's their thing as a brand
i like both but green would be my pick seeing what else you own
the black is a genuinely cool coat. green doesn’t go with your wardrobe as much
allows u to highlight the silhouette of the coat without muddying the outfit and looking vaguely like a medieval monk
The black highlights my silhouette?
lol everyone said the green one goes with my wardrobe more now I’m not sure which one it matches with lol
When MFAers disagree strongly about issues of style I look at their fit pics and see which one I would rather end up looking like
lmfao what are you implying
I’m not implying anything I feel like I was pretty clear 😂
just fyi those are 2 different colors you're mentioning when you say green, one is pewter green from fw22 vs dark squirrel which is closer to a dark taupe from fw23
the green goes with the average mfa wardrobe
personally im not a fan of stacking too many earth tones whereas all black outfits consistently work, and if necessary u can always add a pop of color
the black highlights the coat’s unique silhouette as a statement piece. also has more high fashion connotations
all black outfit especially with this coat would be much harder to pull off than earth tones
the coat is so large and distinct it's going to pull focus regardless
either earth tone will probably be more cohesive with everything else you wear underneath, while the black will stand out; it's a matter of personal preference (and ig what other accessories you wear) as to what to pick
That’s true ahh I’m still undecided 😦
ultimately there's no real right or wrong answer
there exist pros and cons to both as outlined; only other thing i would say is try looking up the coats on google to see how they're styled, that might inform your choice
I already own a black/grey trench coat from Uniqlo and I have a brown mohair overcoat too
otherwise take your pick and post something in #styling-suggestions if you're still not sure
OH
well that changes things a little
how long is the overcoat?
Yh I noticed the black one was mainly worn with black and grey clothes. I saw someone wear it with a red shirt. The green one was mainly worn with brown and black. But I feel like the black overcoat can be styled with brown too brown and black is a combo I like
Both go just past my knees the black one is maybe at above my calves
i mean either way you're gonna have a somewhat redundant looking coat
These are my two coats I think the Lemaire one is quite different from the head two
the green looks like an olive to me which can be worn with things like gray, white, light blue, yellow, etc
how often do you wear just the trenchcoat when it's cold
Yh I think it’s olive I’ve been looking for an olive coat but like a raglan type one that’s a herringbone with green and brown too
I’m in London so often but it’s warming up but I’ll be keeping these clothes forever
This is the coat I have from Uniqlo it’s grey if I’m honest
Dunno why it gave the image as a file ignore it pls
you might want to search for balmacaan coats
Yes that’s what I want as well but I’ll probs be buying that later gant has a nice one in grey and black but I’m not too crazy about it
it will likely be easier to find a black or dark gray balmacaan than to find an olive one
if you're looking to avoid redundancy i'd go with the olive
Thank you
Wish I was with my black one so I could show you a pic of how awesome it looks. I have been wearing a lot more black/grey/white though. The dark squirrel looked like it would clash with too many other earth toned things in my wardrobe
I also went XL at 6’2” 180 and I can fit so many layers underneath it
would you say the green one would clash with my wardrobe or would the black one clash?
Do you also think that the black coat can be overwhelming like others have said?
why does the green one clash with your wardrobe because your earth toned stuff is brighter?
I think you have the leeway to go either way.
^^ lent my black overcoat to a friend otherwise i would show some sample oufits. also stacking earth tones isn't cool/trendy anymore
I like overwhelming. It’s not a subtle coat to begin with. So much drama
hmm maybe I might get the green one because Im sure in the future there will be another dramatic black overcoat since its quite a common colour
:thinkbutt:
Just to necro this a bit, I own the fw23 green one (squirrel), and it reads way more like a sort of grey brown than an olive
the pewter one from fw22 is much darker green
As others have said, its a fairly dramatic coat regardless of which colour you go for
Wait really any chance of seeing a pic of it pls
yeah here is a couple in different lights. The first one feels most accurate to my eye, the sort of taupe colour
the last one the pockets are bagging out as I put like 2 bottles of wine in each the night before, it doesnt normally do that
Yh I will say the colour is quite accurate in the pic if you don’t mind me asking what size are you wearing and your height if ok. I’m 5’8” and was thinking of getting a large so I can layer jackets underneath it
Would you say you were happy buying this colour and not black?
Yeah I prefer this over the black, the black just didnt seem as cool to me tbh. I'm 6ft, About 165lb/75kg . I normally wear a medium, this is a medium
its very roomy and oversized, so I can wear a jacket under it easily. Its fairly thick, so wears warm.
Where are you thinking of buying it from, I thought they sold out most places
second hand or any other store that are selling it saw one on farfetch but if im honest 1K is way over budget so banking off second hand just want to decide on the colour now so if I see a bargain I will just buy asap
Yeah fair, I got mine on sale and its by far the most expensive thing I own so I get you 1k is so much. Its a fairly popular coat, so would imagine maybe 600quid second hand? maybe 500 depending on how lucky you get
yh 500-600 is what I am thinking as well
I will probs go for med - large
Yeah fair. I would say a lot of people size down and it looks less oversized, https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116793468489039904/1180022247726006272 is the black sized down. I wouldnt size up on this coat, it is huuuge
hope you find one!
