No. A WebSocket actually starts with a GET request so if you blocked GET requests you'd be blocking the initial WebSocket handshake and nothing could connect.

That's the only way, really. If you want to accept a websocket with a Worker then you also need to accept HTTP.

Keep in mind bots could send the Upgrade header themselves to trick it. Most bots wouldn't, but anyone targeting specifically your site could do that.

Something i did to prevent bots was implement this list as a CF list and I block these ip ranges -
Blocking all major datacenters and clouds.

Of course. I wouldn't do that for now until you have a need/an issue. There's lots of other ways to block bots

They have it broken into 2 lists. There is a set of lists that is just datacenters. (I do have the usecase of wanting to block vpns) but its just an idea of. If you want a central list blacklisting all big datacenters this is a good source of truth

Oh yes, this list had worked wonders for killing VPNs accessing our app at work

(i work for a crypto exchange app and we need to make sure we dont have non compiant users accessing app by vpn)

Yeah, there are many ways to put them down. But wanted to share blanket measure if made sense to have a blanket measure until they can tighten up for other blocking methods
