im ngl ive never heard those words in my life
Pants you like. Idk what this endomorph stuff is
They’re like fitness terms people use to describe their body types. Idk how exactly it’s relevant to fashion though lol
Im not lanky so its actually quite hard to find good outfits to complement
yeah this doesnt matter in fashion
Oh really?
fashion caters toward skinny people but lots of people of all body types can participate
I thought diff outfits match different body types to find that balance
hmm
like for eg for tapered jeans , guys like me dont fit that cos it shows too much of the thighs etc
like the balance is off
tapered is off trend rn anyway
oh
is this true?
the 3 necks part
wondering how i can apply this in the travel fashion
Am I having a stroke?
?
Anime is not something I’d recommend using as a fashion reference
What is travel fashion? What are the three necks? The words you’re saying are English but they don’t make any sense to me
Im new
thats why i ask
My op qn on top
I’d recommend taking a look at #waywt-highlights finding some stuff you like on people
From there we can figure out what style direction you’re wanting to head into and can recommend specific articles of clothing
ohh i see but most of them in there are lanky
Don’t worry about that
but im not
Forget about body type and just find stuff you like and we can go from there
There’s ways to make every aesthetic work on every body
Oh i see
is there a winter fashion tag in there?
im trying to find the winter fashion
This is a primarily NA server so just about everyone in #waywt and #waywt-highlights has been dressing for winter lately
But no, there’s no specific tags for anything
Oh u mean currently
?
Yeah
Oh ok
Dressing for your body is just about getting stuff that is cut in a way that achieves your desired look
does this still apply if i wanna use the current jacket i bought(at that time i didnt know anything about fashion)
It doesn’t mean you can or can’t wear different styles
I don’t understand the question
What is “this” referring to in this sentence
this is my current jacket
Looks fine
ohh thanks
any jeans, shirt and boots to complement this
Focus on what people were saying earlier about finding what you like first
Yeah
This one jacket isn’t enough to make style recs around
Look through the channels that people linked and pick a couple outfits you like
Then show us
ok let me check , trying to find the one closest to this jacket
Don’t start with that
Just pick ones you like
Doesn’t matter what’s in them
oh ok
maybe this?
but im not sure is this winter outfit
Yes?
thats all ig
The third guy you linked is NZ based as luck would have it
@BilliamsPC
this?
Yeah
I like this style
this looks like sassy boss
so do i copy like this?
there's some commonalities there - some sort of big button down shirt as the outermost layer, straight(ish) fit pants, big shoes, neutral colors but with some interesting patterns
those are things to look for THEN worry about sizing
Yeah
I’m guessing a denim jacket and some olive fatigues may be a good place to start
fit pants (not tapered right?)
Yeah straight fit
ohh nice !!
looks like youre into vintage/milsurp stuff
oh whats milsurp?
Military surplus
also if possible try clothes on before buying because different brands have different cuts (especially of pants). it's not worth buying something that doesn't fit because it looks cool
Old military uniform leftovers like the shirt in #4
oh wait can this be worn on winter? isnt it too cold ? sry i rarely experience winter
ahh yes i love those
you can and should layer things
Idk depends on the climate
Look into og107 shirts and pants
layer them under your big white coat, for example, or have a hoodie or something underneath if it's cold
Ebay had a ton secondhand but companies like bronson and Orslow manufacture reproductions of the vintage models
Oh wait it can complement with my big white jacket?
it doesn't -not- complement it
neutral colors with interesting patterns (wanna clarify) is this general whole outfit?
the short answer is "not really..." but that is a question that is better answered by this guide on the substack https://malefashionadvice.substack.com/p/building-outfits-that-work
Building outfits that work
Getting started: the basic advice guides
but in those pictures you liked you can tell there's a patterned top layer (be it shirt or jacket) and a plain bottom
Ohhhhh
then the big shoes?
can it be boots?
Are you asking if you can wear boots with the olive pants?
yea
Yes
i believe the boots are better off covered by the pants is it?
It’s personal preference
oh is it better to have it tucked in the boots
I wouldn’t do that
Oh
Tucking military pants into boots sends some weird signals
i wouldn't do it BUT the best thing you can do is try it out, take pictures and post them here (in another thread)
ok
theory crafting fits is a valuable process but does not compare with actually putting on the clothes and seeing what happens
gotcha
how about hat?
i do have thinning hair
so wanted to cover it
personal preference really
not sure is this viable for this type of outfit
im bald lol
Baseball hat or beanie works with just about everything
like don't try to cover thining hair imo
I wouldn’t recommend anything else when you’re just starting out
im asian , bald dont look good
Whereabouts in NZ are you going?
North island
@BilliamsPC is this true
Because unless you are going into the high country proper you aren't going to need cold weather gear.
must be :thinkbutt:
So you are going to need stubbies, a t-shirt and nothing else.
No socks. No shoes. No watch. No nothing.
im going in june
And a mullet
which is winter
our winters aren't necessarily very cold but they can be very wet
Ohh
In all seriousness, bring a raincoat. I doubt it will get below 10°C in the north island.
It's more a question of something windproof and waterproof.
Oh i see
i think i gonna try out this
And like. Auckland is different to Wellington is different to Queenstown.
oh we are going hamilton and rotorua
I recommend Huntly for it's thriving night life. @BilliamsPC back me up on this one.
oh i see
we already planned the itineary
That was a joke. There isn't a lot in Huntly.
Im more into nature than city life
Anyways so basically NZ has inconsistent and wet weather because it's a big island close to the ocean.
it seems like denim jacket is no go
So raincoats are important.
People do wear them a lot here. But not out in nature.
oh
anyways thanks for the help so far
is this good top
Anyways this is my one rainproof windproof jacket that I wear literally everywhere for every occasion. (I live in NZ.)
Yeah. It looks like a shirt.
even in winter?
In winter I wear a jersey underneath it.
oh cos they were recommending interesting patterned top
Are you moving to nz or just going on a trip
I think a similar quesstion got asked op but it got derailed
trip
Ok
Do you want new clothes just for the trip? Or for everyday life
for trip
i usually dress well in travel not casual tho (because its hot af here and comfort over anything)
this looks cool btw especially with that hat
i honestly thought those were out of fashion
btw for boots wanna ask
do heel boots look good in this context? especially when im short
Larger heels could look nice sure, it would be helpful if you posted a picture of the closet fit you could get to your ideal style, it’s hard to give suggestions without context
Yeah “heel boots” is just extremely broad
You could mean anything
The heeled boot category is as wide as the ocean
smth like this?
oh is this too tacky?
Is this ai
I would say that the heel is fine on those but in my opinion the buckles and silhouette will be challenging
oh
how about this
not sure is this exactly heel
If that's a heel
Then most shoes/boots are heeled.
i have this but is this complementary to vintage/milsurp look?
It could be, fit pics would be very helpful for offering advice!
Personally I associate timberlands more with streetwear than milsurp looks
But yeah it depends on the specifics
I associate them with tradies?
It’s always better to try something on and see how it looks if possible
Well yeah that too but in a fashion context
oh i see thanks
Look through the outfit channels again and pay attention to footwear, ask people what they’re wearing if you like it
I think when you first get into fashion you really want to change your entire look but the reality is you will have more success going slowly
Slowing down and starting to figure out what you like will help with not buying things you find you don't enjoy a little further down the line
for straight pants (does slim fit and regular fit makes a diff
does it need to be wider
i think my thighs is getting in the way of having the straight pants look
It looks like the pants are too tight at the waist (flared pockets) and the fit of the pants is tapered, hence not allowing for the straight pants look. Nothing wrong w your thighs, you just need to look at a different cut and size up
oh so go for wide fit? because thats reg fit
Straight is a fit
Slim is a fit too
Or maybe I'm talking shit because they call regular pants "straight" on my language lol
But yeah theres a difference from slim
"straight" generally just means that they don't taper from the knee down. You can have slim straight, straight, relaxed straight, etc. all brands have different ways of calling these and it can be arbitrary
i see, thanks
ohh i think they call it relaxed here for loose
based on this photo , the jeans might be too long for me, so if i go for relaxed straight , do i ask them to cut at ankle length?
Depends on the look you want! I agree they can be hemmed, up to you whether you want to go for no break to have them sit just above the shoe, or full break to have a bit of extra length. Full break is probably the most "trendy" at the moment but it's really personal choice
im going for milsurp look
If you hem them to the length of a full break, it also gives you the option to cuff them on days you want to
This look that you mentioned you liked would be a full break, so could ask them to be hemmed to whichever length would give that look for you
oh i see i see
thanks
It's stupid even in fitness
also how long will you be in new zealand?
my sister did student teaching in new zealand for a semester and ended up buying some clothes there so that's also an option
Holy shit I didn't think I'd see this manga again
It was actually entertaining enough
2 weeks
my friend did recommend me to buy some rugby clothes merch so theres that
not sure will that complement in that sense
that will be a instance where you have to try them on with stuff and see
i think for a two week trip you don't actually need that much, especially if you can wash you clothes
What manga is it
I'm curious to know
Idk but I think I found it from MFA ages ago
omg lol
Its probably a rare niche anyways for a manga
Whole ass Uniqlo section
that singular page looks cute
i would recommend referencing it more for outfit choices than actual dialogue. a good character design will show you how to make a solid silhouette and a good color selection - you can’t always count on texture, but silhouette and colors for sure.
i do agree with arthur’s point tho
learning character design will teach you so much about how to dress
ie, you can learn a lot about texture from jim henson production costuming
