They’re like fitness terms people use to describe their body types. Idk how exactly it’s relevant to fashion though lol
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
Im not lanky so its actually quite hard to find good outfits to complement
raisinpie
raisinpie3mo ago
yeah this doesnt matter in fashion
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
Oh really?
raisinpie
raisinpie3mo ago
fashion caters toward skinny people but lots of people of all body types can participate
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
I thought diff outfits match different body types to find that balance hmm like for eg for tapered jeans , guys like me dont fit that cos it shows too much of the thighs etc like the balance is off
raisinpie
raisinpie3mo ago
tapered is off trend rn anyway

artvandelayimporting
Anime is not something I’d recommend using as a fashion reference

awburkey3mo ago
What is travel fashion? What are the three necks? The words you’re saying are English but they don’t make any sense to me
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
Im new thats why i ask My op qn on top
artvandelayimporting
I’d recommend taking a look at #waywt-highlights finding some stuff you like on people From there we can figure out what style direction you’re wanting to head into and can recommend specific articles of clothing
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
ohh i see but most of them in there are lanky
artvandelayimporting
Don’t worry about that
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
but im not
artvandelayimporting
Forget about body type and just find stuff you like and we can go from there There’s ways to make every aesthetic work on every body
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
Oh i see is there a winter fashion tag in there? im trying to find the winter fashion
artvandelayimporting
This is a primarily NA server so just about everyone in #waywt and #waywt-highlights has been dressing for winter lately But no, there’s no specific tags for anything
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
Oh u mean currently ?
artvandelayimporting
Yeah
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
Oh ok
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan3mo ago
Dressing for your body is just about getting stuff that is cut in a way that achieves your desired look
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
does this still apply if i wanna use the current jacket i bought(at that time i didnt know anything about fashion)
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan3mo ago
It doesn’t mean you can or can’t wear different styles I don’t understand the question What is “this” referring to in this sentence
Aqua

this is my current jacket
artvandelayimporting
Looks fine
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
ohh thanks any jeans, shirt and boots to complement this
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan3mo ago
Focus on what people were saying earlier about finding what you like first
artvandelayimporting
Yeah This one jacket isn’t enough to make style recs around
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan3mo ago
Look through the channels that people linked and pick a couple outfits you like Then show us
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
ok let me check , trying to find the one closest to this jacket
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan3mo ago
Don’t start with that Just pick ones you like Doesn’t matter what’s in them
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
oh ok maybe this?

Aqua

this?
artvandelayimporting
Yeah
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
I like this style this looks like sassy boss so do i copy like this?
zeometer
zeometer3mo ago
there's some commonalities there - some sort of big button down shirt as the outermost layer, straight(ish) fit pants, big shoes, neutral colors but with some interesting patterns those are things to look for THEN worry about sizing
artvandelayimporting
Yeah I’m guessing a denim jacket and some olive fatigues may be a good place to start
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
fit pants (not tapered right?)
artvandelayimporting
Yeah straight fit
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
ohh nice !!
raisinpie
raisinpie3mo ago
looks like youre into vintage/milsurp stuff
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
oh whats milsurp?
artvandelayimporting
Military surplus
zeometer
zeometer3mo ago
also if possible try clothes on before buying because different brands have different cuts (especially of pants). it's not worth buying something that doesn't fit because it looks cool
artvandelayimporting
Old military uniform leftovers like the shirt in #4
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
oh wait can this be worn on winter? isnt it too cold ? sry i rarely experience winter ahh yes i love those
zeometer
zeometer3mo ago
you can and should layer things
artvandelayimporting
Idk depends on the climate Look into og107 shirts and pants
zeometer
zeometer3mo ago
layer them under your big white coat, for example, or have a hoodie or something underneath if it's cold
artvandelayimporting
Ebay had a ton secondhand but companies like bronson and Orslow manufacture reproductions of the vintage models
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
Oh wait it can complement with my big white jacket?
zeometer
zeometer3mo ago
it doesn't -not- complement it
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
neutral colors with interesting patterns (wanna clarify) is this general whole outfit?
zeometer
zeometer3mo ago
the short answer is "not really..." but that is a question that is better answered by this guide on the substack https://malefashionadvice.substack.com/p/building-outfits-that-work

zeometer
zeometer3mo ago
but in those pictures you liked you can tell there's a patterned top layer (be it shirt or jacket) and a plain bottom
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
Ohhhhh then the big shoes? can it be boots?
artvandelayimporting
Are you asking if you can wear boots with the olive pants?
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
yea
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
i believe the boots are better off covered by the pants is it?
artvandelayimporting
It’s personal preference
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
oh is it better to have it tucked in the boots
artvandelayimporting
I wouldn’t do that
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
Oh
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan3mo ago
Tucking military pants into boots sends some weird signals
zeometer
zeometer3mo ago
i wouldn't do it BUT the best thing you can do is try it out, take pictures and post them here (in another thread)
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
ok
zeometer
zeometer3mo ago
theory crafting fits is a valuable process but does not compare with actually putting on the clothes and seeing what happens
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
gotcha how about hat? i do have thinning hair so wanted to cover it
zeometer
zeometer3mo ago
personal preference really
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
not sure is this viable for this type of outfit
william
william3mo ago
im bald lol
artvandelayimporting
Baseball hat or beanie works with just about everything
william
william3mo ago
like don't try to cover thining hair imo
artvandelayimporting
I wouldn’t recommend anything else when you’re just starting out
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
im asian , bald dont look good
OceanicEternity
OceanicEternity3mo ago
Whereabouts in NZ are you going?
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
North island
artvandelayimporting
@BilliamsPC is this true
OceanicEternity
OceanicEternity3mo ago
Because unless you are going into the high country proper you aren't going to need cold weather gear.
william
william3mo ago
must be :thinkbutt:
OceanicEternity
OceanicEternity3mo ago
So you are going to need stubbies, a t-shirt and nothing else. No socks. No shoes. No watch. No nothing.
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
im going in june
OceanicEternity
OceanicEternity3mo ago
And a mullet
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
which is winter
william
william3mo ago
our winters aren't necessarily very cold but they can be very wet
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
Ohh
OceanicEternity
OceanicEternity3mo ago
In all seriousness, bring a raincoat. I doubt it will get below 10°C in the north island. It's more a question of something windproof and waterproof.
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
Oh i see i think i gonna try out this
OceanicEternity
OceanicEternity3mo ago
And like. Auckland is different to Wellington is different to Queenstown.
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
oh we are going hamilton and rotorua
OceanicEternity
OceanicEternity3mo ago
I recommend Huntly for it's thriving night life. @BilliamsPC back me up on this one.
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
oh i see we already planned the itineary
OceanicEternity
OceanicEternity3mo ago
That was a joke. There isn't a lot in Huntly.
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
Im more into nature than city life
OceanicEternity
OceanicEternity3mo ago
Anyways so basically NZ has inconsistent and wet weather because it's a big island close to the ocean.
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
it seems like denim jacket is no go
OceanicEternity
OceanicEternity3mo ago
So raincoats are important. People do wear them a lot here. But not out in nature.
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
oh anyways thanks for the help so far is this good top
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago

OceanicEternity
OceanicEternity3mo ago
Anyways this is my one rainproof windproof jacket that I wear literally everywhere for every occasion. (I live in NZ.)

OceanicEternity
OceanicEternity3mo ago
Yeah. It looks like a shirt.
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
even in winter?
OceanicEternity
OceanicEternity3mo ago
In winter I wear a jersey underneath it.
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
oh cos they were recommending interesting patterned top
artvandelayimporting
Are you moving to nz or just going on a trip
Zee
Zee3mo ago
I think a similar quesstion got asked op but it got derailed
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
trip
artvandelayimporting
Ok Do you want new clothes just for the trip? Or for everyday life
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
for trip i usually dress well in travel not casual tho (because its hot af here and comfort over anything) this looks cool btw especially with that hat i honestly thought those were out of fashion btw for boots wanna ask do heel boots look good in this context? especially when im short
Scott
Scott3mo ago
Larger heels could look nice sure, it would be helpful if you posted a picture of the closet fit you could get to your ideal style, it’s hard to give suggestions without context
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan3mo ago
Yeah “heel boots” is just extremely broad
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan3mo ago
You could mean anything
No description
No description
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan3mo ago
The heeled boot category is as wide as the ocean
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
No description
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
smth like this? oh is this too tacky?
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan3mo ago
Is this ai
Scott
Scott3mo ago
I would say that the heel is fine on those but in my opinion the buckles and silhouette will be challenging
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
oh
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
how about this
No description
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
not sure is this exactly heel
OceanicEternity
OceanicEternity3mo ago
If that's a heel Then most shoes/boots are heeled.
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
i have this but is this complementary to vintage/milsurp look?
Scott
Scott3mo ago
It could be, fit pics would be very helpful for offering advice!
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan3mo ago
Personally I associate timberlands more with streetwear than milsurp looks But yeah it depends on the specifics
OceanicEternity
OceanicEternity3mo ago
I associate them with tradies?
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan3mo ago
It’s always better to try something on and see how it looks if possible Well yeah that too but in a fashion context
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
oh i see thanks
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan3mo ago
Look through the outfit channels again and pay attention to footwear, ask people what they’re wearing if you like it
Smiles
Smiles3mo ago
I think when you first get into fashion you really want to change your entire look but the reality is you will have more success going slowly Slowing down and starting to figure out what you like will help with not buying things you find you don't enjoy a little further down the line
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
for straight pants (does slim fit and regular fit makes a diff
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
does it need to be wider
No description
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
i think my thighs is getting in the way of having the straight pants look
DH
DH3mo ago
It looks like the pants are too tight at the waist (flared pockets) and the fit of the pants is tapered, hence not allowing for the straight pants look. Nothing wrong w your thighs, you just need to look at a different cut and size up
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
oh so go for wide fit? because thats reg fit
Gatan do rock
Gatan do rock3mo ago
Straight is a fit Slim is a fit too Or maybe I'm talking shit because they call regular pants "straight" on my language lol
Gatan do rock
Gatan do rock3mo ago
But yeah theres a difference from slim
No description
tun🌻
tun🌻3mo ago
"straight" generally just means that they don't taper from the knee down. You can have slim straight, straight, relaxed straight, etc. all brands have different ways of calling these and it can be arbitrary
Gatan do rock
Gatan do rock3mo ago
i see, thanks
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
ohh i think they call it relaxed here for loose based on this photo , the jeans might be too long for me, so if i go for relaxed straight , do i ask them to cut at ankle length?
tun🌻
tun🌻3mo ago
Depends on the look you want! I agree they can be hemmed, up to you whether you want to go for no break to have them sit just above the shoe, or full break to have a bit of extra length. Full break is probably the most "trendy" at the moment but it's really personal choice
No description
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
im going for milsurp look
tun🌻
tun🌻3mo ago
If you hem them to the length of a full break, it also gives you the option to cuff them on days you want to This look that you mentioned you liked would be a full break, so could ask them to be hemmed to whichever length would give that look for you
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
oh i see i see thanks

Holy shit I didn't think I'd see this manga again It was actually entertaining enough
Aqua
Aqua3mo ago
2 weeks my friend did recommend me to buy some rugby clothes merch so theres that not sure will that complement in that sense
zeometer
zeometer3mo ago
that will be a instance where you have to try them on with stuff and see i think for a two week trip you don't actually need that much, especially if you can wash you clothes

i would recommend referencing it more for outfit choices than actual dialogue. a good character design will show you how to make a solid silhouette and a good color selection - you can’t always count on texture, but silhouette and colors for sure. i do agree with arthur’s point tho learning character design will teach you so much about how to dress ie, you can learn a lot about texture from jim henson production costuming
