Video on "What you can do to pause AI"
Many people I've spoken to want to do something to Pause AI, but don't know where to start. Even more importantly so, they feel like they can't do most of the useful things. "I'm not a lobbyist" or "They won't listen to me" or "I can't organize a protest".
I want more people to feel like they can make a change. So I want to make a video to give people that feeling of "i can do this". Make these actions feel less scary.
I'm just a software engineer. Never did activism. Never was a lobbyist. But in the past year, I have (in this order):
- Asked knowledgeable people for help on how to be effective
- Organized protests
- Emailed & met politicians
- Been active on social media
- Written articles
- Made videos
- Hosted workshops
- Reached out to potential coalition partners
- Was on podcasts
- How much should I talk about the problem (AI risks, why we need to pause, race dynamic) in this video? Maybe not at all? Maybe 2 mins?
- Which actions deserve extra attention? Maybe emailing needs a bit of a deep dive, or maybe building?
- Should I talk about the psychology of it all? Not wanting to feel responsible, insecurity about acting?
