How to tell which blazers are high quality on Ebay?
I’m somewhat familiar with a lot of the good brands (like Oxxford, Brioni, Zegna, Isaia, Brooks Brothers, etc). Problem is a lot of these brands have their lower quality outlet lines. It’s a bit overwhelming looking through Ebay with all of these available brands, trying to figure out what line the piece is just based on the shape of it when not enough information is included. Any tips for spotting the good stuff on Ebay and efficiently filtering out the low quality stuff?

let me post my ebay search strings
Thanks
If you haven't gone through this yet, it is helpful for generally determining a rough hierarchy of quality https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1y32yqkSU5_ZnVO7ub_B5Y6J9E_izu6qD6nwdzw7V1HU/edit#gid=1990531564

Here are two different search strings. You can drop these into ebay and then filter by size/category:
(suit, sports coat, sports jacket) (boglioli, canali kei, canali 1934, zegna milano, cifonelli, lardini, partenopea, isaia, kiton, attolini, rubinacci, brunello cucinelli, luciano barbera, ralph lauren purple label, sartorio, brioni, eidos, ring jacket, orazio luciano, caruso)
(oxxford, brioni, cesare attolini, caraceni, kiton, luciano barbera, borrelli, sartoria castangia, santandrea, st andrews, zegna couture, lutwyche, tom ford, sartoria formosa, ralph lauren purple label, stefano ricci, saint gregory, tincati, battistoni, d'avenza)
For some of the ones with multiple different lines, you can filter based on manufacturing location
So this pulls all the stuff manufactured for PRL by Corneliani, RLBL by Caruso, etc.
As per the usual, the biggest thing is to figure out measurements before anything as the numbered sizing can change over the years
you can always post questions here regarding specific listings
Gotcha thanks, that’s all very useful
a lot of the diffusion line stuff you just need to learn brand-to-brand there's no real trick to it
What type of deals do you guys tend to get on ebay?
I’ve seen some guides say to filter below $30
usually I aim for sport coats in the ~$50 range, OCBDs in the ~$20 range, trousers in the ~$35 range, it really depends on what you're looking for and what is your willingness to pay
like if the perfect sport coat for me came by I probably wouldn't hesitate spending up to 200 on it
but generally I'm picky and patient and don't mind waiting a long time and watching my saved searches for a good deal to come by
Awesome thanks
Definitely clears a lot up
what will be most useful probably is posting actual listings and getting opinions from people
i have spent everywhere from $15 to $400, it really depends on the item
Suit from today was $250 but was in my size and a cool pattern from a company that does not exist anymore that made fantastic suits
are you able to filter size with this search? for some reason it’s not an option for me
make sure you're in the right category
if you're just searching it won't give you size options normally
ahh that was it thanks
Remember to save the search (and turn off email notifications)
Because then you can browse by new/have it highlight stuff that has been posted since you last looked at it
Oh that’s very useful
it also helps to watch the item, sometimes sellers instinctively send a deal over to encourage a quick sale
what do you recommend using for search terms for ocbd’s?
here's my search as you can see it's filtered for size 16 and then I manually put 35 into the search terms to get 35 sleeve length
so change the size to whatever your neck size is then replace the 35 in the search query with whatever your sleeve size is
thanks!
I don't know if it's been mentioned but fabric content can be a good giveaway of quality.
